OK, I can't decide between these two: drink with the living dead Immortal Scully Tell me a little about both!
You got it!
drink with the living dead
Mulder, Skinner, and Doggett walk into a bar... (lol, but seriously) and they talk about their experiences dying. I really just wanted to see them bond through this common thread. I got 1.4k words in and then some other WIP pulled my attention away. That's probably about halfway through? Here's a snippet:
Doggett sat quietly, staring at the bottle in his hand. Skinner eyed him for a moment, watching his fingers pick at the fraying label, before turning his gaze to Mulder. He spoke softly. "John's died too, you know." Doggett glared at Skinner. "What happened to 'nobody else needs to know'?" Skinner shrugged, but under the table, he knocked his knee into Doggett's. "It's Mulder." "Yeah, yeah..." Doggett grumbled. He took a swig from his beer, then tilted the bottle toward Mulder. "It was your fault." Skinner snorted quietly into his glass as Mulder splayed a hand across his chest. "Me?!" "Yeah. You." "Well now you have to tell me," Mulder said, resting his chin on his fist, waiting.
(I had fun reading through this to pick a snippet, I should finish it, lol.)
Immortal Scully
Not a title haha, just an idea that I had to log down at some point—a series of vignettes, each one a snapshot of Scully witnessing or reflecting on the death of someone close to her as she continues to live on and on. I did get a couple hundred words down, so here's half that to preserve some mystery...
Scully stood at the familiar hospital room door, her eyes darting from the knob to the chart to the little window—the view inside obscured by the pattern etched into the glass. She raised her hand for a moment, curling it into a fist to knock, before dropping it back to her side. There wasn't much point in knocking for a coma patient, certainly not after 368 days—one full year, plus a few extra days holding on to hope; she knew better, of course, but still she made excuses that she couldn't arrange the travel in time. Today was the day they'd say goodbye.
Who could it be?!
