          [ Uh oh.  Someone's not happy about something today.  There's no light in Percy's eyes, no quiet smile of adoration when he lays eyes on his companion. ]

16: Upside-Down Kiss

          When Percy finds himself tangled up in the climbing net he'd been scaling three seconds ago, hanging upside down and trying not to let out an embarrassing noise of shock at his fall, the first face he sees is Ethan's.

                    His stomach lurches, and he untangles his hands from the net to promptly slap them over his reddening face.  It's not often that he makes a mistake like that, but he's so sore from last night----

                              At least he can take solace in the fact that no one else is watching them.

          "Good job, grace."

                    Percy refuses to acknowledge the teasing, nor does he look at his companion when his hands are gently pulled back from his face.  "I hate you," he spits, nose wrinkled in irritation.  The bitter words are met with a smile, and Percy can literally feel all his anger ebb away when Ethan presses their lips together, the fact that all the blood in Percy's body is rushing to his head long forgotten.  He could kiss Ethan like that all day if it weren't for the fact that he'd probably pass out.

          "... Can I get down from here and have a proper kiss before you make fun of me, asshole?"

          "Mom, do you think I'll ever fall in love?"

                  Percy rests his head on his mother's leg and shuts his eyes, letting her stroke his hair without complaint.  He must be seven or eight years old, still wearing his outgrown shark footie pajamas that should have been thrown in the trash last year.

     "I don't know, Percy," she hums, smiling down at her son.  Percy thinks that his mom is the prettiest lady in the world, and he'll never be able to find someone as pretty as her, but maybe there's someone out there who's a close second.

          "Can I marry a boy?"

     Sally's taken off guard, wide eyes turning down at her son for a quick moment.  Then she laughs, leaning down to kiss Percy's forehead.  "As long as you're in love with him, Percy."

          "He'll have to be really handsome if I marry him.  Rugged." He says the word like he understands it, but in reality he just heard it on the television a few hours ago.  With the way his mother smiles, he thinks he used it in the right context.

     "Whatever you want, my baby."

          "Mom, I'm not a baby anymore!"
