28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?

mmmmm. I did a lot of the embarrassing stuff that was common at the time (discussion with the ‘muses’ in author’s notes, ~randomness~, cliché tropes and memes...), but I think it was also a good thing that I just wrote and posted and did whatever I felt like with no inhibitions at the time I started. I used to just start a fic and post it immediately, and post the chapters as I wrote them, and get feedback as I went, and I wouldn’t be able to do that nowadays but it was a very interesting and dynamic process which I’m glad I experienced. I’m more comfortable with planning stories and only posting fics once I’m completely finished and satisfied with them, now, but... I kinda miss that other way. :X

So uh, answer to the question is nothing, I guess. I was super embarrassing and I keep wanting to deleted old stuff, but I’m glad I started that young, wouldn’t be the same if I were only starting now as a Mature, Thoughtful Person.

41) What’s you favourite minor character you’ve written?

I haven’t yet managed to actually write much for them (planned!!! very planned) but I’m super fond of the goddesses from Pokémon BW.

Back in the days I also had a blast writing a lot of fic for Black Cat’s Lin Shao Lee/Ling Xiao Li/whatever (number X), including shipping him with a super minor character, aaah the angst, that was some good times. way too sappy but I had so much fun.

47) Here’s a fic title - insert a made up title. What would this story be about?

It’s GOTTA be about Spiral

Urgh, it would be Kanone formulating a theory very like that post and musing about it, about how Eyes is his most dangerous knife, both his own knife, what spurs him on and makes him dangerous (he’s doing this whole thing for all the Blade Children but let’s not kid around, it’s also in a BIG part just for Eyes), and his biggest weakness and the easiest way to hurt him (canon that having to kill Eyes has a high risk of driving him crazy). Eyes is his favorite knife. Kanone PLEASE

Anyway, lots of stabbity stabbity foreshadowing. which wouldn’t even be foreshadowing since Kanone had 100% planned the stabbing. ugh I’m in pain now

Oh, plenty. Let’s go with GS - I still haven’t figured out Amiti actually.

right now it’s alan in pokéani……. nico di angelo also comes super easily.

In GS… I think it’s Sheba, these days, but that’s solely because I suddenly started writing her A LOT. It used to be more difficult for me to get into her head, until I decided to make most of her characterization “chaotic gay”.

Alex, bedside manner as a Sanctum healer

oh at the SANCTUM he was perfect, pleasant and soft and kind words, reassuring smiles — his gestures and handling of the patient could be rough, but only as needed, exactly like Mia and her father. Just efficient. He definitely suggested at least a few times giving up on a potentially-but-not-certainly-savable patient to focus on others they were sure to save, but never in front of the patients. Perfect pokerface. Even helped the old peeps eat their soup.

He only started letting his inner shithead speak aloud after joining the Proxians, who wish every day they’d seen this side of him before taking him with them but now they know how good he is it’d be stupid to get rid of him just because of how insufferably snarky and needlessly brutal he is all. the. time. Saturos only half believes it really was necessary to re-break his bones that one time but is 200% certain Alex took great personal pleasure in doing it.

ghetsis for 3 pros and cons?

CHARISMA. He canonically just… seduced people into following him — either for his facade goal, either for his true goal, which is also interesting. Most of his actual lines aren’t super subtle/hiding his evilness, but canonically he’s good at manipulating and wrapping all kinds of people around his little finger. Not the only Pokémon villain to be like that at all but IDK I always felt that he was the best at it… (IIRC most of Team Flare are more there for the surviving and the Fashion than actually for Lysandre’s ideals?)

PHILANTHROPIST ADOPTS ORPHANS AND GIVES OLD MEN NEW REASONS TO LIVE ok sorry x’D No but seriously, kindof overlaps with the previous line but it is interesting how many characters feel like they owe him for a technical kindness he did them??? The Seven Sages, saved the Shadow Triad’s lives, unclear exactly how and why he ended up with the Goddesses but it sounds like they were also orphans he picked up… like, yes, of course his intentions were bad, and we know N was treated terribly his entire childhood/life, but the others are more ambiguous on how they feel about him. INTERESTING

His dialogue is amazing, at least in French and Japanese, he has very distinct speech patterns that change depending on context and mood and ahhh it was so!!! fun!!!! to read!!!!!! the Pokémon games all have great (&hilarious) French localizations but the BW games might have the best dialog of all… There’s very clear attention to the words the Sages all use and Ghetsis is all in implications and pretense and mielleux and ahhhhh.

Booooooring in the anime, they had to take out Plasma’s cover from the first game so no affably charming persona, no double-crossing, not even an interesting relationship with N (the backstory is there, but glossed over), just straightforward obviously evil. :( disappointment

it’s incredible that I didn’t give a bullet point to his relationship with N above so I’ll put it here: the BACKSTORY is way unclear and messy, as is their actual relationship (what IS the canon stance on it in the end??), and. the end result is SUPER SAD?? N comes back to confront him and try to save him and get closure and he just??? doesn’t get it?????? Ghetsis is STILL at large?????????? holy fuck arceus shit;;;;;;;;;;;; Even the implication that he’s become a vegetable 1) doesn’t make up for his escaping prison/consequences/punishments for his actions, 2) DOESN’T ALLOW N TO GET EMOTIONAL CLOSURE AT ALL, EVER;;;;;;;;;;; I kindof horribly love it but what the HECK kind of a writing decision was that… I feel like even killing him off would have been more satisfactory for everyone involved (players and characters), although probably still traumatizing.

The art styles for the witches’ mazes are amazing!!!! the sequence in Gertrud’s maze bought me over instantly (I think that was already the one with the vaguely Magritte-esque inspirations?), and then Elsa Maria, and everything about Oktavia von Seckendorff, and, and!!

The soundtraaaaaack, i know this is obvious when Kajiura is involved but the musical atmosphere of PMMM is definitely noteworthy (the ED and OP also... at the very least Notable).

The writing of the original anime is... really good, tbh. Originally I watched it mostly unspoiled in almost a single sitting and was blown away and EXTREMELY pleased, then watched Princess Tutu and ok PT is definitely Better in general, and then PMMM reached that point in fandom where it gets more criticism than praise and you start noticing all the flaws and issues and I was pretty disenchanted for a bit (and this was before Rebellion Story) ... and then I rewatched it, and... ffffffffff. No matter whether or not you knew the twists and no matter how you feel about some core elements, the WRITING is still... really good. Sayaka’s arc, the “development”(/reveal of what they’ve already been through and what their personalities really are) of Mami, Kyoko, Homura and even Kyubey, the timing and the way the reveals happen, the foreshadowing and the shift of perspective, the principle of starting the story ACTUALLY IN THE MIDDLE/NEAR THE END of the actual chronology of events... There’s a lot to take from it. It’s a very well done anime on all accounts.

That one line about how it’s all because teenage girls are the most emotional (I can’t find the exact quote rn but I remember the context being that it’s really bc of the changes at that stage of development and so REALLY BASICALLY BECAUSE HORMONES)

The last ~15 minutes of Rebellion Story ((the rest of it is honestly p good though, and I love some of it to BITS, but overall it’s entirely unnecessary :| and the END OF IT, DEFINITELY BAd))

HONESTLY the concept is pretty cool?? as a Moai/Easter Islands reference it a very clear design

i love its little walk, its pose in the official artwork is super cute (?????????? pokémon predicted the moai walk)

the evolution method is original and cool, worldbuilding/PokéScience-wise

I am extremely partial to stories about childhood as a good thing (as opposed to stories-about-growing-up, which can be very good too but are a different thing), and it’s very well depicted in this book, it captures the essence of childhood and child thought without being infantilizing either

the entire friggin talk with the fox about apprivoiser aaaahhhhh??? why do people quote the l’essentiel line or the rose when there is:Tu n'es encore pour moi qu'un petit garçon tout semblable à cent mille petits garçons. I’m. not sure how we’re supposed to take the rose. Is it meant to be cute or sad or “aww it could have been beautiful but they were young :(” or “SOMETIMES RELATIONSHIPS ARE REALLY UNHEALTHY AND IT’S BETTER TO GET OUT”. If it’s the latter and “it’s okay to feel sad about those things too”, good, but else........ honestly I’ve never been super fond of the rose and that entire part. ;;; and I’m a little ticked that it’s often the most remembered/talked-about part (thankfully the next most-quoted is the fox)
