Bad Day

Garrus can always tell when Lecrinn is having a bad, even when she's the Mad God.

            It was a seemingly normal day in the Mad Court, Lecrinn ruling from her throne of Garrus’s lap.

But he could tell something was wrong, her expression was harder than usual, her voice sharper, and her patience thinner. “Perhaps we should take a break?” he offered.

            “I told you I’m fine!” Ah yes, and her attitude snappier.

            “But you have been at it for a while, and no one’s here right now.”

            She rambled on a protest, getting cut off as he hefted her up into his arms. “Hey!”

            “Haskill, can you take care of things for a while?”

            “I always do, sir.”

            “Thank you.” Standing, he walked off with Lecrinn.

            She narrowed her eyes up at Garrus. “I could smite you, you know.”

            “I’m aware.”

            Once they were up the stairs and down the hall, her annoyance had eased to a smirk. “Carrying away a Daedric Prince, have you gone mad?”

            “I must’ve gotten it from you.”

            Her voice grew quiet and sincere. “Thank you, Garrus.”

            He looked down. She was smiling sadly up at him, her eyes glowing more than usual, he soon realized the gold was reflecting off tears rimming her eyes. She’d been having a bad day and just couldn’t admit it. He returned the look and tone. “Anytime, my love.”

            Her smile widened before her gaze shifted to the corner of her eye. When the smile fell, she quickly put on a flirty smirk, looking back at him. “So what are you planning on doing with me?”

            “Whatever you want.”

            “You carried me off without a plan?”

            “The plan was to stop you from working.”

            She gave a quick laugh. “You really did get it from me.” A moment later, the smile fell flat. “So…” her voice cracked. She finally let all the pretenses drop with a sigh. “Can I just cuddle you and cry?”

            “Of course!”

            She tried to smile but her lips shook, eyes welling up.

            His heart panged. Luckily, they were almost there. He glanced up. “Can you get the door?”

            Without bothering to look, she waved a hand, the door swinging open. As he stepped through, it swung back closed.

Stumbling out of the Newlands Lodge, Lecrinn felt Garrus crash into her before her other senses tailed behind.

"Garrus..." She remembered slipping around the back of Ohtimbar's house, towards Llevana Nedaren's when something sharp had pricked into her back. "Where's the others? Where's Rann, Praelyn, and Reptilious?"

"They're fine." Garrus knew she would worry about others before herself. "But they'll be expecting a report on you shortly enough."

"Oh." It was about all that she could muster, given how pain and nausea still peppered her body. Garrus was singlehandedly supporting her upright, she figured, and he was doing so both gently and firmly. Lecrinn was glad, really, the world kept spinning from whatever poison had been injected into her--

"You shouldn't have walked out of the Lodge so soon." Garrus said as he lead her back inside. "We don't know who tried to poison you... so far there's no--" Ever the gentleman, Garrus ignored his own surprise and braced Lecrinn in a hug after she had closed the gap in a single deft step.

Garrus's eyes were half-lidded after. "Lecrinn...."

"I'm not gonna poison you with a kiss." Lecrinn giggled softly. She could feel her face was flushed. "I'm only happy to see you're okay too."

At the very least, Garrus's was too. "I- I knew that... but even as a guardsman I'm in far less danger than you."

Lecrinn sighed heavily and leaned on Garrus, too sickly to care whether others noticed. "It's not about who's in more danger..."

A shy smile peaked onto Garrus's face as he leaned towards her. "...it's about how we've both come out alive." The guard then was to be the thief today-- for he stole a second kiss from Lecrinn right in the entrance of the Lodge.

Garrus was a respectable man, Guilbert thought, and so he hoped the guardsman would not mind if he kept him company. It was a lovely morning in Cheydinhal anyway, too beautiful to waste inside. The river babbled quietly under bridges and greenery seemed to rustle as both men strolled the town. "Things have been peaceful here since you moved away," Garrus said with a nod. "Most troublemakers now think twice." Guilbert nodded back, smiling brightly. "It's because you and Lecrinn make such a wonderful team! Who would dare mess with the captain of the guard and his daedra-slaying friend?" His smile slowly faded, however, when he noticed what appeared to be Garrus grimacing. "Did I say something wrong?" "No, I just..." "Is Lecrinn hurt?" Guilbert was clenching his hands nervously now. "No! Gods no, she's as spry as ever. It's just... how do you manage it?" "Manage what?" Guilbert blinked. He wasn't entirely sure what he was managing to do. "She-- Miraina loves you. And you're comfortable around each other..." Garrus brushed some of his hair back as his hand ran through it. He sighed. "I want something like that with Lecrinn too." Guilbert's smile returned. "The four of us aren't so different there-- Miraina and I have a friendship built on trust and a touch of danger--" He stopped when Garrus began to look at him as if he had sprouted two more heads. "...what?" "You don't know do you?" Garrus's voice was light and unmistakably horrified. "Guilbert--" Guilbert was beginning to panic. "What do I not know? Has something happened?" Garrus kept staring at him. "Guilbert, I- I thought you knew. I thought you knew Miraina's madly in love with you. Romantic love, my good man!" It was now Guilbert's turn to stare at Garrus. "..what?" "I thought you two were lovers!!" Garrus finally cried, wringing his hands harmlessly. Guilbert swallowed. His face felt warm now. "...Miraina's in love with me?" He watched as Garrus, proud and tall, seemed to deflate with a sigh. He barely caught what the guard captain said. "...Is this what I sounded like to the rest of the guard?"

@hannahcbrown Come get your girl - she's been wandering around my head, being adorable. (I doubt I'll ever write this out properly, but it's enough to have the bones out for now I think.)

I had a dream last night where Lecrinn turned up in Cheydinhal, and she was either expected or Garrus had asked her to come. Garrus wanted her to come to the castle, but was being puckishly cagey about why - out of character, but not enough for her to be worried.

So he takes her into the kitchens, and in addition to the usual dunmer woman who's the head cook, there's a cobalt blue dunmer who looks very similar to the cook.

Garrus calls out, "Ser Omellian," and the dunmer turns. His eyes light on Lecrinn and he grins, saying, "Is this her?" After Garrus introducss Lecrinn, Talis says, "I would shake your hand in the cyrod style, but, ah-" he's up to his elbows in flour. Instead he gives a bow and says, "warm seas under warm skies, muthsera."*

Talis then presents them with a selection of pastries and some hot drink and says they're to taste test them for him, with a wink to Garrus. They take the tray and Garrus steers them to a small table.

Garrus explains that Ser Omelian is a Big Deal in the Imperial City and when the Count heard he was here, convinced him to provide dessert for dinner tonight. Garrus chuckles, saying, "He's come a long way from making mud pies and calling it chocolate."

Lecrinn asks then if they know each other? Yes, they grew up together, Garrus says, as much as a mer and a human can grow together**. He urges her to try the pastries - ser Omelian's reputation is well deserved.

So she does - and they're some of the most delectable things she's ever tasted! She does that "eyes rolls so far back in one's head that one's eyes close" thing, and when she opened them again, she finds Garrus looking at her with intense fondness. There are blushes, and fluttering lashes, and sips of tea taken to hide them.

They continue eating. A little pot of clotted cream*** has been provided with one of the pastries, and Garrus has managed to get this on his cheek. Lecrinn giggles, and wipes it off in a tender gesture.

In the background, Talis' mother notices the two lovebirds, and starts to sing something soft and sweet in dunmeris as she cooks. Talis joins in on the harmony, and offers Garrus a wink in the time he can spare to look away from Lecrinn.

I'm usually terrible at romance, but this was just too cute not to share. Clearly my subconscious knows better than I do 😉️🧡️

(* I know this isn't quite right, but I can't remember the correct phrase - it's one of the things that the NPCs in Morrowind say to you if you're of high renown, same way they say "wealth beyond measure, outlander)¹

(** how do mers age in TES? Is this accurate? Who knows!)

(*** I don't care if it's not lore friendly - clotted cream is the most delectable cream in existence. This is a hill I will die on)²

(¹ Edit: I found the phrase it should be "Under sun and sky, outlander. We greet you warmly." Eh I was close)

(² Turns out that clotted cream made from sheep or goats milk (which Cyrodiil seems to have most of) is called ashta. Everyday's a learning day...)

I am once again working on Steal Away. I just wrote the last paragraph here and don't entirely feel awake, so it might need editing XD:

            “I can’t just abandon my post every time you want something.”             “Uh huh,” her smirk widened.             He looked forward with an annoyed huff, knowing full well he’d do whatever she asked. He looked to her from the corner of his eye-staring ahead with a bubbly smirk. He smiled softly, knowing full well he wouldn’t mind.

Good Morning, My Love

            Golden hour shined through the window, casting a shadow of its heart shaped ironwork on the wall over the bed. Under the sunbeams was still shadowy.

            Lecrinn slowly awoke to warmth and the sound of a steady heartbeat.

            She laid on her side, up against Garrus’s, her cheek pressed against his bare chest. He had an arm against her back to support it, the other held her hand atop his chest.

            Opening her eyes, she squinted against the light. She tilted her head back to look at Garrus, finding him already awake and beaming at her, brighter than the sunbeams.

            “Good morning, my love.”

            She gave a sleepy smile back. “G’mornin gorgeous.”

            His smile turned giggly.

            “Did you have sweet dreams?”

            His voice swelled with adoration. “No dream could ever match the one I wake to.”

            Her eyes flicked in a playful eyeroll but sparkled with joy.

            Raising their held hands, he slowly kissed her knuckles, drawing her gaze back to him. His eyes softened as they gazed into hers.

            Heart fluttering, her lips pressed together, trying and failing to contain the swooning smile.

            Eyes brightening, one side of his mouth tilted up in a victorious smirk.

            Oh that was it. Leaning back down, she kissed his chest, giggling as she felt his heart quicken beneath her lips.

I put Lecrinn and Garrus in Tomodachi Life, and Lecrinn ran into him (literally XD) and fell in love immediately. XD

I'm losing it, I'm laughing so much.
