     YEAH, LIKE A LITTLE INSIDE HELP, but she'll never tell him that. he doesn't need to know what she did as a new agent—he'll never know. it nearly ended her career before it started, but in the end it had been worth it.

     then she realizes she has that far away look on her face she sometimes gets and it's forced away quickly, replacing it with a smirk.

     A HAND RUNS THROUGH HER HAIR and rayne takes in a shaky breath. she’s been trying to figure out how to tell finn all day, and now that she has she feels lighter. the fear she felt over telling him seems ages away now, but there’s still a pit in her stomach.

     ❝i just–❞ there’s a shake of her head. ❝i’m scared, finn. i’m terrified. if this goes–❞ she can’t even say it. ❝i won’t be okay.❞

     ASHER IS ASLEEP IN THE NEXT ROOM and rayne is just enjoying some quiet time with finn when he says it. she shits up, brows pulling together for a moment before lips form that familiar shape paired with a quiet ‘oh’ as she stares at him and tries to remember how to form a sentence again. it’s still so surreal that they’ve just had a baby, that asher is healthy and nothing went wrong during the whole of the pregnancy even though it so easily could have. now finn is telling her he’s been trying to figure out how to propose.

     ❝ask me–❞ rayne moves closer, gently taking his face in her hands. ❝finn, just ask.❞ she doesn’t wait for him to reply instead just kissing him.

     ANGER BUBBLES BENEATH her composed surface with each silent step away from the gathering of the pantheon. she disappears into the shadows, but re-emerges on the mortal plane as opposed to the evernight or even thief’s cove. all she wants is to be as far from her divinity as she can be right now and that means finding herself walking the familiar streets of philadelphia. for a short while she needs rania not to exist, she needs to not have the responsibilities that come with her position–she needs to be rayne again, if only for a short while.

     BREATHING IS LABOURED, heavy as she leans against the wall and focuses on him despite the blurring at the edges of her vision. if she's going to die here, rayne is glad finn's is the last face she's seeing instead of the one belonging to dead man on the floor; rayne almost can't believe she finally got him.

     ❝our timing's always been kind of off,❞ the laugh that leaves her has a faintly bitter edge to it, but ultimately it's not one that conveys regret by any means. ❝we're really good at shitty timing.❞

     features are soft as she looks at him. they're not sharp or harsh, she doesn't look whethered or exhausted ( factoring out her bleeding to death ); in this moment rayne is at peace with what's happening to her and it shows.

     ❝deathbeds are when we say all the best things.❞ rayne smiles weakly at him, the corners of her mouth trembling because keeping it up uses a lot of energy she doesn't have. ❝for what it's worth, which isn't much considering my current standing,❞ she vaguely gestures at her bleeding self. ❝i love a felon—how's that for a cliché?❞

     sirens in the distance catch her attention, a flicker of panic coming across her face. ❝you have to go before they get here. they can't find you here, finn. especially not the way it looks.❞
