Thing of the Month: Nathan Coley’s The Basic Material is not the Word but the Letter
Join Turner Prize shortlisted artist Nathan Coley for this in-conversation event in which he will discuss his latest work The Basic Material is not the Word but the Letter (2018), created for the University of Edinburgh Main Library. Coley will explore the work in the context of his wider practice, concentrating on a number of key pieces that have shaped his career to date.
Coley, who is based in Glasgow, creates work that questions how we relate to public spaces and architecture. His work is driven by research centring around the social aspects of our built environment and the communities and individuals who occupy it.
The event will take place on Friday 9 March (15.00) in Room 5.21, Evolution House, Edinburgh College of Art. It’s free with no booking required. All are welcome.
Thing of the Month is a series of informal talks which highlight objects from the University’s Centre for Research Collections. In Semester 2 talks will focus on some of the Art Collection’s recent acquisitions and new commissions of contemporary art.
