No one knows how you two got together. Bets were placed but whenever it’s brought up it’s dismissed by him and you- and to be honest- since you’re so cheery, seeing you turn serious is a bit discomforting.
In all honesty, Tomura loves being around you. You make him laugh and you always manage to make him forget about his anxieties. You have a great sense of humor. You had to ask him out and he thought it was a joke but it was one of the few times he saw you so serious.
The League always catches you doing something silly. You’re always trying to balance things on other things, or impersonate someone- usually Dabi since next to Tomura, he’s the more serious one. The impressions always manage to make Himiko laugh the most, just bursting into laughter and telling you how well you can impersonate someone next to her.
You like to tell jokes and often will just tell him really bad ones in order to get them to smile. It’s usually so tense around the hideout- for obvious reasons- but you want them to lighten up just a bit. Life shouldn’t be all doom and gloom, they need a moment to breathe and remember they’re people too.
It’s not all doom and gloom but most of the days spent at the hideout are rather uneventful except for you. You just like making them laugh. It makes you realize that you are all a family. A rather odd family, but a family.
Tomura rolls his eyes whenever you explain to him why you want to make the others laugh. You never know how to word it properly, always tripping over your tongue or repeating your words in a different sequence but it always comes back to just wanting to see them smile.
He scoffs and rolls his eyes, immediately moving on but will freeze when you grab his face and he’s forced to look at you. His eyes lower and you tell him that you like to make him smile the most out of anyone. His breath will hitch if you compliment his laugh or smile.
You’re funny. He’s always been attracted to you, but you’re also fun to be around with. He hasn’t had the most pampered life, his laughter comes from twistedness and with you, it isn’t. It’s genuine laughter that makes his stomach hurt, and chest fill with a warm feeling.
He isn’t jealous that you make others smile. He gets your reasoning but sometimes he wishes you wouldn’t be so touchy with the others, that you wouldn’t try to get their laughter. He’s selfish in that way. He wants to be the one that hears your jokes first. It’s dumb and childish and he hates it but he can’t help but feel that way.
Tomura really does like hearing your jokes. They’re dumb but cute and he’ll tolerate them because you’re the one saying them and your impressions are fairly accurate- he always smirks when you do an impression of someone.
The darkness is broken by pearly moonlight that peeks through the blinds- the only source of light that fills the room and makes the darkness softer. You lay in bed, legs kicked straight out and hands folded above your stomach as if you were eternally resting. Next to you, Tomura sleeps, back turned to you and hands outstretched, hair that wraps around his neck and exposes bits of pale skin.
You turn to your side and your hand traces above his skin, following the lines of faded scars that mark his neck. His neck is far from smooth, but under your touch, it’s still soft and the little ridges that appear remind you that he is indeed real and that you are sleeping next to him- you were allowed to get close enough to him- enough for him to trust you with his back turned while he slept.
“Go to sleep.” His voice breaks the silence and it slurs together. His shoulder blades shift and the blanket slides a fraction down his shoulders. He grumbles in protest.
“Not tired,” you mumble, suppressing a yawn. Your hands drift away from him, sliding slowly off his neck and leaving the hair on the back of his neck stand on its end. “Hey, do you think I’m funny?”
“For fucks sake,” he whispers. “Why now?”
“You were always such a light sleeper.” Your lips press against the space where the color of his shirt and skin meet and he stiffens in response. “I’m just curious is all. You’re usually honest when you’ve barely woken up.” Your lips brush against him, breath fanning across his neck and you peck at the spot.
“I’m always honest.” He shifts and you pull away, watching him turn towards you. His eyes are bright in the dark. “What’s with the dumb question?”
You shrug. “You’re extra honest when you’re half asleep.”
“Answer my question.”
You sigh. “I don’t know. You’re so serious sometimes that it’s hard to tell if you actually find me funny.”
He rolls his eyes and his knee nudges into your leg. “You’re funny.” His lips quirk and under the blankets, his hand reaches towards you but pulls back. “Now go to bed.” He swallows and his hand twitches.
It’s a quick movement, his face closing the gap between the two of you and a quick peck at your lips, leaves your chest light as if all air has escaped your lungs. All with just a simple kiss. It’s nothing sensual, not underlying want with it, just a simple good night kiss where he gets to kiss you and promptly turn around avoiding the smug grin that you give him.
“Can I tell you one joke?” You whisper, pressing your palm against the back of his hand.
You hear him groan. “Make it good.”
You clear your throat and your hand slides upwards to scratch lightly at his scalp. “What do sea turtles use to get high?”
“I swear-”
“Tomura,” you whine, kicking your leg out to get him to cooperate.
“Fine-” you can practically hear the eye roll- “what is it?”
“Seaweed!” You whisper excitedly, the biggest grin on your face as you wait for his response. “Get it? See- Oh!” You’re about to speak when his voice interrupts you.
“I take it back. You aren’t funny.” He sighs and presses himself against your hand.
You gasp. “Tomura!”
“Sh. I’m sleeping. Good night.” He brings the blanket further up his body and sinks into the pillow, humming in repose when you run your hands through his hair.
You roll your eyes and continue to massage at his scalp. “Fine. I can take the hint. Good night Tomura.”
I find cosmic insignificance ridiculous because you're judging yourself based on how long you exist in a universe of vastly differing timescales and deciding that the big things are more important because they last longer, or you are less important because you can't affect the big things. I don't know what effect would even mean in this context, like what violence anyone would want to do on the universe, but I still think some people take it for complete granted how much complexity and exact perfect circumstances are needed to produce things that can THINK. I think being a thing that can think is very significant. If you're going to do the very human-biased thing of assuming all things that exist are ranked on an importance scale in the first place. It simply does not exist we made it up!!!!
