Anyone else's dad watch a rather eclectic collection of videos on youtube? Because mine sure does.
Types of videos my dad (who is in his early 60s) watches:
- videos about Nordic volcanos
- videos about living on sail boats/narrowboats
- videos reviewing high end sail boats he will never buy
- videos of guys who literally move dirt around for a living (like digging out ponds or building dams)
- livestream videos of them building rockets at SpaceX
- videos about planes (both civilian and military)
- review videos about high end planes he will never buy
- videos about civilian small plane crashes
- cooking videos (Sam the Cooking Guy seems to be a favorite)
- videos about current natural disasters (he's literally right now as I type this out watching video after video of the earthquake that just happened in Taiwan)
- videos about homesteading/small farming
- videos reviewing farm equipment/commercial lawnmowers
- random clips from random old movies & tv shows
after what happened in the village and with rose, i was determined to make sure that ethan would have the best fathers day after that.
but like everything in our life it doesn't go to plan. things all go sideways or don't work out and it does make me a little frazzled but honestly? ethan loved it anyway.
"its the perfect representation of our life... it's okay. all that matters is i have my two most important girls with me"
so we basically just spend the rest of the day lounging around together and playing with rosemary. and its exactly what ethan wanted <3
For Leon, he made a very big deal about how he didn't really want any big thing, which we all respected. But Sherry couldn't just NOT acknowledge him for being an actual father figure to her.
So about halfway through the day when Leon was just relaxing, she came up to him with hand made card that she'd spent hours perfecting and gave him a big hug as she walked away.
the card was a picture of all of us holding hands and it read
"thank you for saving me from the monsters in raccoon city and for giving me the dad i never had. i love you and happy father's day"
needless to say it made leon cry and he keeps it folded neatly in his wallet everywhere he goes.
so this father's day is VERY special for sebastian. It just so happens that its also his birthday! So Lily and I set out to make it super special.
She'd spent all week drawing cards and other art for him for both father's day and his bday. At every chance that her and I got to be alone, we went out to get him presents and wrap them all up.
we let him sleep in for as long as he wanted to and as soon as he came downstairs into the living room, lily practically tackled him, happily shouting happy birthday and happy father's day. i came up behind her and gave him a kiss, saying the same and telling him coffee and breakfast was ready and waiting for him along with a butt ton of presents and a day full of anything he wanted to do
seb thanked us both and told us we didn't need to go through the trouble of doing anything. just being with us was all he needed. of course, we say that he deserves it all and to hush.
we all eat breakfast together and we open presents afterwards. most is just random bits and bobs that we thought he'd like and he does!
we then go out on a drive together in his car, ending up in a random little spot where we all just relax and enjoy spending time together.
for dinner, we go out to one of his favorite restaurants and once we're home, we celebrate with a homemade baked good~
happy birthday sebby. and happy father's day. you are the best dad to lily and we both love you very much.
So we're nearing Evie's first birthday which also means that TODAY is a certain two people's first father's day we actually get to celebrate~
SO OF COUUURSEEE I wake up extra early to get a few things together for the two of them, with lil Evie just chilling in the background.
I decide to make them both their favorite breakfasts n coffee (perks of working in food service for many years, can make multiple different meals at once with ease)
and while I wait for that all to cook up, Evie and I decorate a card for both of them as well as wrap a few presents for them together (she does what she can, I mean she's only 9 months old lol)
And once everything's done, i plate and decorate everything and to be able to carry everything, i wrap up evie in her lil baby wearing wrap and bring the tray that I had everything set up on into our bedroom.
by some grace of the gods, both of them are still asleep. i gently set the food and stuff down on the dresser across from our bed and unwrap evie.
I let her loose on the bed as she crawls up between them, softly saying "dad da da" over and over again as she cuddles up between the two of them. i set down on the very edge as i nudge their legs to wake em up.
they both wake up and of course the first person they see is the very girl that made them both dads~
of course everyone says their lil good mornings and such as they wake up and evie keeps bouncing between the two of them as i give them their breakfasts. i take her so they can eat in PEACE and once they're done evie and i give them their presents.
adam got a pocket watch that he had been eyeing, one that was at a local antique shop that he wanted to take and repair it. he absoloutely adored the gift and immediately set it over on his desk where all of his tools and projects were, saying that it would be his project for the day.
and after we moved to prague n the whole incident, frank had to get rid of that beat up motorcycle in his office, so I found a deal and got him a new one. still needs some repairs and such but hes more than happy to take on the challenge.
and they had one shared gift that was made by evie and i...
its a scrapbook-like thing where i compiled all the slice-of-life pictures i had taken of them and put them all together in a story book like way. Evie's footprints and hand prints are also in the beginning of the book.
and that one, is their favorite <3
I'm gonna make a couple of different fathers day posts for my f/os that I have kiddos with that are Dads™ so if you would rather not see that stuff, I'm gonna tag it all with the tag "things dads do" so you can blacklist it 🥰
And just a friendly reminder that if you have a shitty dad you are absolutely not required at all to be all happy about this day, go take the day for you darling. Spoil yourself and I love you very much <3
So my dad isn’t great with technology
and one day I came upstairs and found him holding the computer monitor on its side. I asked what the heck he was doing and he turns around looking really startled and says, “Well... I wanted to look at the picture sideways but I don’t really know how....”
... he turned the moNITOR SIDEWAYS BECAUSE HE COULDN’T FIND THE BUTTON TO ROTATE THE PICTURE I DIED LAUGHING
