Finished building a couple of things today. Some wood planters and a table for my printers.
For some reason Fall always puts me in the mood to do some woodworking.

Today I was thinking about how I get crazy ideas in my head for things I want to do and there’s usually no talking me out of it. One summer it was really hot and the thought popped in my head, build a pool. So I went on YouTube to research how to build a pool. Seemed simple enough. By the end of the week, I ordered a kit and a month later I had it built. The only thing I didn't do was the initial dig.
I had never built anything like it before. It was really easy to be honest. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t be afraid to try stuff. Just do. It’s not like you are doing brain surgery, etc. I’m certainly not all that smart and if I can do something like this, you can too. So if you have an idea, go for it.
Finished a rustic farmhouse bathroom cabinet this morning.
It is a glorious thing, to get lost in a world of your own creation.
The single most important thing I ever did for myself was stop striving for greatness. I used to think, "I want to be the best. I need to make something truly amazing, something truly profound. A performance, a line of music, a perfect love scene that will leave my audiences speechless. I want to make something that stays with people, just like my favorite actors, artists, writers, make things that stay with me." But the thing is, people have built-in bullshit detectors, and very good ones, too. They know the difference between someone TRYING to be great and someone simply BEING great. They know when you are trying to impress, and when you are just trying to do what you need to do to express your art. They know when your product is forced, and when it is not. I decided to stop trying, and to start being, and have never looked back.

A Broken Ship
I am not yet two decades old—
which means that I am nothing more than the shadow cast
by the blink of an eye
in the concept of time.
And yet even I know
that when the stars all die
there will be something left to light the sky
out there in neighboring galaxies,
future planets which are as of yet
nothing more than microcosms
of stardust.
But I don’t believe that this
is a miracle
and I don’t believe it’s
divine intervention.
That’s not what I believe in.
I believe in the power
of the human brain,
a brain so complicated
and powerful
it knows more about string theory
than it does about itself.
Here is the explicit proof
that we were all born to be
Extraordinary
It’s just that some of us get lost
in the static of our own human noise.
I am trying to stay afloat.
I want to be somebody.
If you really want to know,
I want to be somebody special.
At night, I dream fanciful dreams
that my footprints will stay
in the gray
sand beaches of Maine
long after I’ve gone away.
And I? I am not the only guilty party.
We all want to be
somebody,
somebody,
somebody
special.
You were born as a vessel,
your sails were set from the very same shore
as the rest of us,
full speed ahead towards the very same
lighthouse.
But it is a select hall of fame,
they write your name
in the stars,
but there are only so many stars.
Most of us don’t make it to the lighthouse—
And it’s not because you weren’t strong enough,
it’s because the journey is so hard.
It’s just that
they don’t tell you about the riptides;
Suddenly, it’s too hard to fight the waves
and you’ve capsized.
The best that you can hope for
is that the neighboring ships will jump
in their submarines,
they will scavenge through your wreckage,
pull out your diamonds,
and put them on display in the Smithsonian.
We all want to go on display in the Smithsonian.
None of us wants to end up a shipwreck
on the bottom of the ocean floor.
And I know it’s not a competition,
but it’s beginning to feel like a war.
How am I supposed to listen to
seven billion other voices
when I can’t even make sense
of the one in my own head?
Now I know why aliens will not land here.
You can hear the desperation from space:
Every single on us of is screaming.
Make no mistake, I am screaming, too.
I am hoping that someone
will catch my voice in the wind,
hold the words close,
that they will be changed for the better.
I am just trying to get someone,
Anyone,
to listen.
I am trying to carve my name
in the very same earth as you
before my time runs out—
I don’t want tot think about what will happen
if my space runs out.
You see, I know the limits of this body;
I am not trying to live forever.
Love, I am just trying
to build something
that will.
-A spoken word poem I felt I had to share in some way, shape, or form, before I combusted. Perhaps I might post of a performance of it. If I ever do perform it, I'm not sure.
