It has been a really, REALLY tough day, and it’s just now sort of all hitting me, because I guess I’m just now sort of letting it. I feel like I’ve been on a weird autopilot mode all day trying to process things while also trying to act normally, but the surreality of it is weighing heavy now.
Early this morning, my husband and I got the news that there was a death in the family- an overdose.
The number of lives that are derailed, forever changed or even just touched by addiction, depression, mental health issues and suicide is absolutely staggering. It needs to change. I’m not making this post for sympathy or for any reason other than to bring attention to the fact that not enough attention is being focused on these things. The stigmas surrounding mental health and drug addiction need to CHANGE. The way that people who suffer from these issues are stereotyped needs to CHANGE. The way we prioritize how people are treated simply because they don’t compute the same way most people do needs to fucking CHANGE.
Please check in with yourself. Please be honest when you do. Please ask for help when you need it, and accept it when it’s given. Please check in with your loved ones - it might be what both of you need. Please don’t believe the demons, they lie. Please be kind to strangers - you never know what hell they’re fighting through. Please be kind to yourself. You’ve come so far and there is so much more waiting for you.
