The rain had been falling for hours, tapping rhythmically against the windows and creating a soft, steady hum that filled Ernesto’s apartment. You were curled up on his couch, wrapped in one of his oversized hoodies that smelled faintly of him, clutching a steaming mug of hot chocolate like it was a lifeline.
Ernesto leaned against the armrest, watching you quietly. “Hey,” he said softly, breaking the silence. “You look cold.”
“I’m fine,” you murmured, pulling the hoodie tighter around yourself. But the way your fingers trembled slightly betrayed you.
He didn’t argue. Instead, he got up and grabbed a thick blanket, draping it over both of you. Sitting down beside you, he pulled you close so your head rested against his shoulder. The warmth of his body seeped into yours, and the chill from the storm began to fade.
“You know,” he said after a moment, his voice low and teasing, “I think you’re my favorite part of any day.”
You glanced up at him, a small smile tugging at your lips. “You say that every time.”
“Maybe,” he admitted, smirking, “but I mean it every time.”
The two of you sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, listening to the rain. Occasionally, Ernesto would brush a strand of hair from your face or adjust the blanket so it covered your shoulders better. His hand found yours, lacing fingers with a gentle firmness that made your heart squeeze.
“You’re really warm,” you said softly, leaning into him a little more.
“Yeah,” he murmured, resting his head against yours. “I like this. Just… us. No noise, no chaos. Just you.”
You let out a soft laugh, the sound mixing with the patter of the rain. “You’re cheesy,” you said, but your cheeks were pink, and your smile betrayed that you liked it.
“Cheesy?” he repeated, pretending to be offended. “I’ll have you know this is pure, unfiltered honesty.”
You giggled, snuggling closer. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you impossibly closer, like he was afraid if he let go for even a second, you might disappear.
After a while, Ernesto pressed a soft kiss to your temple, then the top of your head. “I don’t care if it’s raining forever,” he whispered, “as long as I’m here with you.”
You tilted your head to look at him. His eyes were soft, vulnerable even, and your heart did a little flip. “I like being here with you too,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
The storm raged on outside, but inside, it was quiet and warm. You felt safe, loved, and somehow, perfectly content, wrapped up in his arms, drinking in the peacefulness of a rainy day spent together.
And in that small, quiet apartment, with the rain drumming a steady rhythm against the windows, you realized that sometimes the best moments were the simple ones—like sitting here, wrapped in a blanket with Ernesto, feeling like the world had shrunk down to just the two of you.
