look when someone wants a story about tommy and lovett and a kitten, who am I to refuse? this is definitely a piece from a longer thing but like. FOR NOW HERE IS SOMETHING AS SMALL AS THIS KITTEN IS. HERE U GO @xoxodumpsterfire

Lovett looks at the kitten. The kitten looks at Lovett.

“Meow,” says the kitten, and Lovett throws his hands in the air.

“See,” he says, “she hates me.”

“She does not hate you,” Tommy says, with what Lovett thinks is unnecessary calm in a time of great suffering. “She just wants your attention.”

The kitten meows again. She’s a tabby with tiny white paws like she’s stepped in paint, which isn’t adorable. Tommy scoops her up easily.

“Here.” Tommy holds out the kitten on one big hand. “Just give her some love.”

“She’s too small for love,” Lovett grumbles, for the sake of it, but the kitten jumps into his lap before he’s finished speaking. She barely weighs anything. It’s like being walked on by a cloud that got loose, if clouds had tiny pinprick claws.

Tommy watches with an air of untoward self-satisfaction as Lovett lets the kitten climb up his bare arm and nuzzle at his chin.

“I don’t like this,” Lovett says. The kitten wobbles on his shoulder and he reaches up to steady her before she can fall. “She hates me.”

The kitten is purring so loudly that Lovett’s ear feels like it’s vibrating. He ignores this.

“Sure,” Tommy says. “Can’t stand you at all.”
