"It will be great exposure..." = one of the most insulting comments you can make to a singer/musician/dancer/model/artist when offering in lieu of payment. If you desire someone's services and don't have a budget, give them the info and let THEM decide whether your project is worth THEIR investment (because when you ask someone to work for free, you ARE basically asking them to "pay" for their involvement in your event; providing you their services COSTS them money). In reality, I haven't paid a single bill with "exposure". Sallie Mae hasn't waived a single month's student loan payment because of exposure. I didn't earn my degree from exposure. My son can't eat exposure. Full time creative artists are NOT hobbyists; this is our career and livelihood. The next time you need a water pipe fixed, tell the plumber how much exposure you can give him and see where it gets you. Honor the skill, training and expertise one has the ability to offer you. Invest in it. #thinktanktuesday
