Y'know what my knowledge of bayonetta may be limited to badass witch lady but I'd still like to hear about your Third Eye crossover thingy

Omg what a thing to wake up to thank you so much :D!!!

To quickly summarise, Bayonetta is an unhinged fast paced fighting game (trilogy) about an immortal witch with demon summoning gun wielding powers, who hunts angels for their halos to earn money and feed the demon contracts so they don't eat her instead. It's incredibly campy and shameless, but behind the scenes it's got some seriously well researched lore and a wealth of world building that drew me to writing for it. It's visually gorgeous and amazingly cohesive.

So what started it all was a meme going around the smash bros community a few years ago when joker and bayonetta joined, about how she was joker's mother. And I, having played both games (but not smash, ironically), was instantly hooked. I really wanted to see a story exploring that, but there was only a handful of fics or comics that, while good, weren't what I was looking for.

So I started writing my own. It's a story about joker (I'm using the name Akira for him) being the blood son of bayonetta, and his life being raised by her and fellow witch Jeanne, who in this fic is living with them and co-parenting hehe. It's following him through his trials and tribulations of being the son of the last witch (they were all killed off in a very violent war with their counterparts the sages), his own training to be a witch via time travel (it's a whole thing) and - in the second half - the circumstances around being forced to leave his small circle of protection and being pulled under government scrutiny after saving shidos victim, where any wrong move risks exposing the last dregs of the supernatural to people who would want to ruin everything.

I'm purposely keeping it unclear how Akira was conceived/born, or who the other parent is (if there even is one), because it's not really relevant and I like the mystery! It's also unclear if Jeanne and bayonetta are in a steamy relationship or just doing a besties cohabitation thing for the sake of the kid, but again it's on purpose ;). And lets me avoid writing romance LMAO.

Unsurprisingly, it's the world building that's really making me struggle, but the general gist is that the afterlife is VERY convoluted.

So, in p5 you've got the meta verse and the sea of souls, which is where persona come from. Persona, who are mythological, literary or historical figures. You can summon persona and kill them to make weapons and accessories. Though you don't lose your persona upon entering reality again, it can't manifest.

In bayonetta, there's three planes of reality. You've got the obvious paradiso and inferno, and then purgatorio, a second layer of earth's reality where the games all primarily take place, where living things become faint shadows oblivious to your chaos - though they will freak out when you blow up their car! Angels and demons alike can be summoned to this plane, (though they often show up regardless lol), being sometimes mythological, literary or historical figures but usually just generic mob enemies (hey, just like persona!). Certain enemies can be taken to a guy to be killed and turned into weapons and accessories. There's a lot of similarity!

So, in Third Eye, the sea of souls that living humans cannot reach is referring to the three planes of reality, where angels, demons and human souls can be pulled into the meta verse to become persona. Awakening a 2nd tier persona is an evolution of the user's soul, strengthening it and making the magics easier. It's a third equivalent to the witch/sages, which is going to be VERY relevant in the second phase.

Also, in the second game, spoilers, there's a blue kid called loki who uses tarot cards to fight, who ends up being the amnesiac god of free will trying to save humanity from his evil counterpart loptr who wants to take control of humanity and remake the world in his image, and eventually he sacrificed his life to do so, with a promise to one day be reincarnated.

So that's where philemon was while Igor was taking over his velvet room :D.

Whumptober Day 18: The doctor is in

Doctor's Visit

Ruby shifted awkwardly in her seat, trying not to cringe as it squeaked.

Beside her, Cole sat silently, hands in his lap as he stared at absolutely nothing.

At least, Ruby hoped it was nothing.

The clock on the wall ticked softly, the sound accompanied by the gentle hum of the fishtank and the soft typing of the receptionist.

There was a small TV up in the corner of the waiting room, some animated movie or other onscreen at a soft volume, but Ruby’s attention was focused on her son.

Who was staring at the nothing on the floor that he’d claimed was a small dog… thing.

But dark and eyeless and, if Cole were to be believed, dripping all over the floor.

Yeah, no, it would help so much if Lou were here right now. But he was handling groceries right now, so it fell to Ruby to bring their son to his appointment.

She settled into her chair again, doing her best not to let her anxieties show.

“So you say your son has been… seeing things?” Dr. Christenson asked.

Ruby nodded. “I understand that it’s normal for children to have active imaginations, but…” She glanced down at her son, who was busying himself on the floor with the blocks in the office, stacking them up in a tower, “I’m a little concerned about the content of it.”

“Well,” Dr. Christenson set down the clipboard, “Children all learn and grow in different ways. Their psychological development does not follow a set standard. Your son is, by all accounts, entirely physically healthy, even with the cutaneous growth on his forehead.” He shifted in his seat, turning his attention to Cole.

Cole looked up at the doctor seemingly without prompting.

Dr. Christenson paused for a moment, then shook his head. “Cole, right?”

Cole nodded.

“Can you describe the things you see for me?” Dr. Christenson asked, clipboard at the ready.

Cole’s lips pursed as he thought for a moment, and then he spoke.

“Teeth.” He said, “Lots. And they got real wide mouths, like big—” Cole gestured animatedly, arms swinging wide, “—big sinkholes right down to the center of the Earth.” He was standing, now, eyes alight with that particular childish wonder, “And they got tongues, lotsa them!”

“Teeth and tongues…” The doctor murmured as he noted down the important bits of Cole’s descriptions.

Undeterred, Cole continued. “Yeah! Long and slimy ones, that drip onto the floor and walls and—” He paused, rubbing at his arms. “They’re cold, when I touch them, cold and slimy and and—” Cole’s voice quieted. “They say really mean things.” He complained.

Dr Christenson nodded. “What kinds of things do they say, Cole?”

Cole sat back down. “That they’re going to eat me, or that they’ll take my eyes, or they’ll claw me and claw me and claw me until I stop moving.”

Dr. Christenson dropped his pencil.

Cole continued on. “Some of them don’t even show up, I just hear them whispering. They always talk about gifts and sight and stuff.” He looked back at the doctor, his face the picture of innocence, “The voices told me to step on a bug, once. But I didn’t. It was a really big roly-poly. They got angry at me for it.”

“Is that so…?” Dr. Christenson ventured, pencil now retrieved from the floor. “Are these voices speaking to you right now?”

Cole nodded. “All the time.”

“What are they saying?”

Cole sat there for a moment, eyes closed as he listened in on something neither of the adults could hear.

“Lotsa things.” He said finally, “Mostly stuff about accidents.” He fixed the doctor with a peculiar look. “You’re going to be late.” Cole stated, voice taking on an odd quality.

Dr. Christenson looked at Ruby, incredulity written across his face.

Ruby shrugged helplessly.

Dr. Christenson looked back at Cole. “I… Alright, Cole, I think that’s all the questions I have.”

“Okay.” Cole chirped, getting back to the blocks.

“How long has this been going on?” Dr. Christenson asked.

Ruby frowned. “It started a month ago.” She winced. “It’s a fifty-fifty shot getting Cole to sleep through the night.”

“I see…” Dr. Christenson nodded. “Have you tried melatonin gummies?”

Ruby slammed the front door shut, hand immediately going to her head to massage her temples.

Fuck, she needed a drink.

Cole came first, though, so Ruby would have to make sure he ate dinner and got settled into bed before she could break out the liquor.

Fortunately, she did have a handsome husband waiting for her in the kitchen, dinner already half-made.

Ruby wrapped her arms around Lou, burying her face into the crook of his neck.

Lou hummed in greeting. “Hello darling,” he sang, “Did the appointment go well?”

Ruby snorted. “I got a bottle of gummies and a negative on the visions.” She murmured. “And a referral to get Cole’s horn chopped off.” She let go of her husband to let him maneuver.

“Well, it can’t all be perfect,” Lou mused, shifting to turn off the stove. “But it’s fine. I got the seals from Lucy put up today.”

Ruby moved to help set the table. “Well look at you, being on top of things,” she chuckled, “Did you remember the eggs, too?”

Lou winced, his expression telling Ruby all she needed to know.

Ruby laughed.

Cole snuggled into the blankets, ready to drift off into sleep.

In the dark corners of his room, several eyes blinked.
