What a crime that this beautiful house is no more. The Gilpin Court neighborhood used to have many such. Alas.

Eberhard Lohman House
301 East Preston Street Built, 1852 Demolished, unknown
[ORN]
John Lohman’s brick house at 1000 North Third was built in 1851 but collapsed three years later, due to street-grading, which bears out our surmise that the north end of Third was once higher than at present. Rebuilt in 1856, the Lohman house is one of the most attractive in this group, in spite of a bathroom-tile finish on the bricks.

Dr. Jones, according to a Richmond Planet biography, had “a fondness for blooded horses and fine equipages,” and whose “notions (were) those of the old Virginia aristocrat.”
