I am obsessed with Yellowstone 6th graders who've been writing poetry this week, because...
sometimes when you prompt children to share their perspective, and help them understand and use tools of figurative language, things like this happen:
The Paper Talks Without Permissions by Treveon L.
The paper talks when I throw it away.
The paper climbs out of the trash & run anyway.
I seen it walking for me to say
Get back there for I throw you away.
The paper is a blessing for me to have.
But the paper almost have been cut & stabbed.
When I look at the sea it helps me to see that my dreams are unlimited.
It whispers and sings to me when it's at rage.
The bouncing blue waves remind me of a beautiful flowing dress that I once had.
The sea brings me joy and happiness in all kinds of ways.
fear is not real by Jaylen M.
y do you fear me
is it because of my cold dark heart
or is it my voice
is it because I am a shadow that moves through the night
What is it that you fear of me
I fear you because you are powerful
and cruel.
please don't be afraid
but be brave
What you fear about me is just your imagination
don't fear me but respect me
The moon comes out at night.
It walks and talks to the star in distant sight.
The moon guides us like it guided Jesus.
It strolls through the sky in the early morning.
The moon whispers to the sun to wake up to shine.
The moon doesn't brag or boast
because he knows his time.
The star in the sky
Shines like the light.
The girl screams because
she doesn't have sight.
She is screaming &
screaming for the sight
that she prays for at night.
If you need me I'll be crying tears of wonder over my pb&j in the teacher's lounge.
