ACHE by You've Got FOETUS On Your Breath
this was originally one of my least favorite Foetus albums, along with Deaf (Nail being my absolute favorite.)
While Nail is still my favorite Foetus album, and favorite album of all time, Ache has grown to be a favorite of mine too. Get Out of My House is a manically catchy tune and J.Q Murder is one of the funkiest and most bizarre tunes Mr. Thirlwell has produced.
The thing setting Ache on higher regards from its predecessor is that almost every song is packed to the brim with actual MUSIC! Deaf was filled with bizarre noise experiments, and the few actual songs had such hilarious sounding keyboards that it was impossible to fully take in J.G Thirlwell's still incredible lyrical talents. This issue has been all but fixed here, as while you'll still hear some goofy casio keyboard noises, the production is so full and complete that it never truly takes away from the song.
One thing of note is that Ache was produced in 1982, which listening to it, is absolutely STUNNING. Here is "J.Q Murder" off of Ache

For the record, "Mad World" by Tears for Fears was released the same year.
Ache is definitely a step up from Deaf and certainly shows how he evolved to the brilliance of Hole and Nail in such a short time period. Definitely a great starting point for early Foetus.
