Thirsty Merc - 'My Completeness'
This came today. I never owned it when it first came out, but I played a couple of tracks at parties and put them on mixtapes.
I found it surprising that I converted someone into a fan by introducing them to 'My Completeness' rather than the chart toppers most people knew. Especially when I didn't like the band much myself at the time.
Since migrating to the UK, I have missed hearing their songs. But I think I needed the gap - when they were at the height of their popularity, they were REALLY overplayed. They were a victim of their own success, much like Nickleback.
I don't think I really got into them until I embraced my (delayed) 20s angst. 'Emancipate Myself' is something I just wanna turn up really loud because the lyrics hit different after life experiences. As for 'In the Summertime' it reminds me of Bondi Reality TV I can't get here and Australia Days at the beach. 'Claude Monet' was one of the few songs I had without a skip in it... that's what you get for burning CDs and using a discman as your primary music player for a little too long I suppose (don't worry, I joined the MP3 player world when I could earn my own money).
Finally getting to the hottest 100 cuz I was busy all day yesterday. And YES YES YES to (nearly) all!

An old one anon! Although I didn't actually notice the release date til the end. It still feels fresh (maybe cos it's my forst listen!).
This was reminiscent of Elton John at the start. It's a very late summery feeling song and I like the storytelling aspect.
Favourite part: probably the layering towards the end that adds some variety to the chorus. I can imagine it being a really fun one to see live.
