I’m rewatching Dalek from series 1, honestly, I don’t think any of the Modern Doctors managed the sheer intensity of the Doctor meeting a Dalek again. (Also the quiet and sad realization that an Old School Cyberman is now just a museum piece).
Tennant managed rage and loathing that runs cold then shouty, Smith is anger, Capaldi’s Doctor has learned to live with Daleks as a reality despite their deep hate for the Daleks but for pure intense, shock to the system hate and rage, it still goes to Eccleston’s Doctor.
I do love the visual call back in Into the Dalek with Twelve meeting Rusty for the first time but you can see from how the Doctor doesn’t interfere with the Human-Dalek war how the Doctor’s learned to live with the fact that Daleks as a race are a thing again. They exist and are every where in a certain time period.
