It's been a trying day for SG, grade A emergencies had her flying from one end of the city to another all day, so when Kara Danvers gets home she throws herself on the couch with her suit still on and lets Krypto cuddle besides her. It's 11pm and Lena is still at work. Thanks to Kara she's been trying to keep regular hours, but she's the head of a multinational company and well, old habits die hard. (1/6)
She is maybe two seconds from falling asleep when Krypto goes suddenly still at her side, she doesn’t have the time to look at him when he’s flying out of the window, his barks fading as he gets farther away. Kara would be annoyed in any other occasion (Krypto is crazy fast and trying to catch him was exhausting in the days she was fully rested, right know it seemed impossible) but there’s a sinking feeling on her stomach. (2/6)
She’s already out of the window when Alex’s call comes through, the second Lena’s name is uttered Kara rushes to her office, she wills herself to go faster, but the day took its toll and she can feel her powers running thin. She pushes herself even more when L-Corp’s building appears before her eyes. The first thing that registers when she enters Lena’s office is the smell of blood and scorched fabric, Kara’s blood runs cold when she takes in the state of the room. (3/6)
The beautiful oak desk Lena bought just a couple of weeks ago was now splinters scattered around the floor along with the yellow flowers Kara had picked for Lena, the chairs were missing and the bigger couch was pushed towards a corner. She doesn’t have the time to fully freak out or even look for Lena when a soft whine comes from behind the couch. She walks toward the corner, the sound of broken glass under her boot the only sound in the quiet room. (4/6)
She pushes the couch out of the way and her heart both feels lighter at seeing Lena in one piece and breaks a little when her girlfriend looks at her, scared for a second before she realizes it’s Kara. Lena is holding Krypto tightly to her chest, sweet Krypto who is covered in blood and green goo and who gently nuzzles Lena. (5/6)
Kara quickly checks both of them and confirms the blood it’s not theirs and crouches in front of her girlfriend and her dog and pulls both of them into a hug and Lena starts crying. They stay like that until Alex arrives with backup, Kara silently thanking Rao that Clark didn’t have space for Krypto, because god, she’s always been scared of not being fast enough, but Krypto? he definitely is. thank you for this, because honestly, the amount of feels i have over krypto protecting lena is ridiculous
