I cannot stop thinking about how deeply music is woven into the identity of peter nureyev. he heard a song once when he was a teenager and dreaming of a world where he had a home and a family and it played over the rest of his life, despite the music he tried to write and steal for himself instead (thief without a name). he sings to himself while he's working, while he's sleeping, sings the same song enough that his partner can identify it after only a few notes. he treats thievery like a dance, an orchestra, a waltz to music only he can hear, and when he finally did get that family he was dreaming of, he gave them a song he played himself before he stole a song from them too (any day now/the key).
