To move around in the snow Ogata needed a vehicle. The bicycles were no good in this weather and he knew nothing of the other sort of moving vehicles. A familiar one would be a best pick.
That’s how Ogata met Wiener - he didn’t know his name though. For a petting zoo ride it was quite a resilient one, skilled in moving through the snow. Ogata still tried to keep himself on the more shallow side of the snow but Wiener made his way through thicker tides as well.
Wiener had good reflexes too. When someone appears right in the middle of the road Ogata’s riding he makes a stop even without Ogata’s signal. Ogata looks down to the stranger but tightens his feet against Wiener’s sides signaling it to continue but suddenly it refuses to move.
