roommate was showing the apt to a white family and. like. ok I’m standing there without shoes on, roommate is standing there without shoes on, all the shoes are in the closet and there’s like a pair of sandles by the door, and they just. walk in with their shoes. don’t even offer to take their shoes off. and I know blah blah can’t expect people to automatically know another culture’s conventions BUT ALSO it’s p common for people to just not wear shoes in their house, isn’t it?? AND ALSO ALSO isn’t it a warning sign if they’re not aware of the whole ‘culteral convention of not wearing shoes in the house’ like???? maybe they’re not invited over to non-white households for a reason huh. the reason being. wearing SHOES in my NICE CLEAN APARTMENT but now I have to CLEAN THE FLOORS AGAIN bc WHO KNOWS WHERE YALL HAVE BEEN.

in  my  olivia  survives  hill  house  au,  for  months  and  even  years  following,  sometimes  she  will  have  these  . . .  i’m  going  to  call  them  episodes,  but  really  they’re  moments  of  emptiness  where  she  feels  absolutely  nothing  and  she  sees  no  colour.  in  these  moments,  she  needs  to  feel  grounded  so  it  wouldn’t  be  uncommon  for  the  family  to  learn  that  she  needs  weight.  having  one  of  the  kids  either  sit  in  her  lap  or,  when  they  get  older,  just  holding  her  hand,  really  helps.  in  the  months  after  hill  house,  she’ll  often  wake  up  in  the  middle  of  the  night  feeling  this  way,  and  sometimes  hugh  has  had  to  hold  her  down.

Dear some of the last pages in my old journal,

I’ve realised recently that I don’t like to be alone anymore. I don’t really get lonely, but I do get bored. Doing nothing is nice when you’re with somebody else. And I get exhausted. I think so much when I’m alone. It’s not always bad things on my mind, but I prefer to just look at him than think about him. He’s really easy to look at, but thinking about him takes it out of me. He’s overwhelming.

When we run away I won’t spend a minute alone. Maybe I will, but maybe it won’t feel like that when we’re not in here.

I’m thinking about stepping into a convenience store to ask for directions and smiling at him through the window.

I’m thinking about sleeping in motels and using our clothes as extra pillows.

I’m thinking about my hand on his leg in the back seat on the way back to Massachusetts.

I’m just thinking about him and I. About missing him when I go to the reception to ask for a towel or an iron or more hot water.

I’m so tired but I don’t want to be done thinking.

I sort of find it sad that I’ve never let myself feel this way, but at the same time I don’t think it’d be the same.

The fact that I didn’t want to feel like this is proof enough that this is

Bigger.

I’ve been thinking about how important nothing is. About how we measure everything – distance, weight, strength. We measure everything from nothing. Nothing really does matter. Nothing is important.

I can list a lot of people that I feel nothing for. But I think I measure my feelings for him from everything. I couldn’t distinguish a point between nothing and everything for what I’ve been feeling, because it’s… It’s more than I know. It’s like I feel with everything, and then some.

Now I’m thinking about space and how people say it’s infinite. You think you’ve seen it all, then there’s more. That’s how I feel. I thought I had a concept of everything but then I found a black hole, more space to cram in every ounce of… feeling. And that keeps happening. Every day, I’m finding more and I’m overwhelmed all over again.

I felt nothing for such a long time and now everything feels… overwhelming.

I’m thinking about running away with him.
