smiled so wide seeing the way salem just absolutely cannot write romance. i would understand kinda being blushy about a dude hitting on u but hitch straight up wasnt flirting that hard and also shes just being insanely mouse racist rn like what if she says this to hitch like "even though you're a mouse.... i, i think you're cute >_<" and he gets icked out so bad because that was racist as hell and ghosts her and then it ends after two chapters

A few people in the comments already mentioned this, but if you replace "mouse" with "Black person" (Which I think it's meant to be the in-universe equivalent) it gets a trillion times worse. "A Black person!? Actually interested in me??? This is moving too fast" "Did I seriously get charmed by a Black person?!" "I can't believe I, a white person, got charmed by a Black person!" "Things moved real quickly that day. Getting flustered over a Black person I just met! And yet [...] this boy I just met made me feel fuzzy..." dude. duuuuuude

like, there's a lot of characters i can see engaging in a toxic, or manipulative relationships in rt. or one born from, and primarily revolves around hate, or even dislike. this can be trauma, or that they enjoy it, or through a series of bad choices.

her whole romance is based around stepping to her rhythm, understanding her feelings, a deep, all encompassing soul connection, valuing individual lives, and implicit, earned trust. there is a reason why her relationship with the rogue trader is strengthened after they display trust, and care for her, and doesn't manipulate, or sway, or attempt to break her to be more appealing.
