Latest issue of Infernal Hulk may actually get me to stop reading until the run is over.

I guess editorial must have approached PKJ about the mischaracterization of Betty wanting to get rid of her gamma mutation because this issue displays her in the throws of a full manic Hollywood "female hysteria" moment and trying to take her own life because she doesn't have wings anymore.

To say these pages are stigmatizing is going lightly. I've seen movies directed by M Night Shyamalan that have more consideration towards severe and persistent mental illness.

Using a gory suicide attempt as a horror sting moment, having someone's despair point be an inability to opening a tub of ice cream, having them wailing and screaming, waving a butcher knife at their partner and smashing wine bottles after enacting the attempt?

This reads like prose from a writer whose entire outlook on suicide is from watching TV shows and films prior to the ethics code for suicide depiction in fiction was established.

I'm, frankly, livid.

Betty was also depowered in Immortal when she first showed up. That character was a nuanced army brat who had been treated as a caged bird her entire life and was livid at every man who would dare decide her fate and tell her what she was capable of.

This Betty is that caged bird, being written in a way that has no respect for her agency and inner life. I don't recognize this woman.

Unrelated to fandom but I “impulse” purchased a spicy betta fish a month and a bit ago, and I have become the weird fish person of my circle.

She’s so small, I have had to crush up beta pellets because her mouth is too tiny to eat them whole. I’m trying to be a good fish mom. I got her a six gallon tank a heater and a slow filter. I clean the water and siphons the sand weekly. (Eventually I want to get a slightly bigger tank with live plants for her that I have cycled, because NATURE).

And I’m TRYING not to over feed the baby, even tho she’s convinced she WILL starve to death…

So my sweet fish child, who associates my finger with food and occasionally attempts to bite me…MURDERED a fly 1/3 of her size, and all that was left was the wings and enough of its back to hold them together. I’m lowkey concerned but also impressed.

Side note if anyone has any advice or suggestions on beta fish husbandry, please enter the chat.

It's very on brand for me to use a sculpture to depict Ani's body type , but truthfully , this is literally the closest thing I've ever seen to how I envision Ani's body type. In fact , I think I'll reference this post for future interactions for this type of thing. I'm actually quite thrilled about finding this & squealing a little bit about it.
