Mat is the biggest goofball in the world and you can’t tell me he’d be SO EXCITED to show you all his favorite places around the Island.
Maty gives me the vibes that he’s into secret places like somewhere no one else knows so he can spend some time in a tiny coffee shop in peace. So that’s the first place he takes you.
“Where are we going?” you ask as your boyfriend turns in a street you don’t know. You thought he was taking you to a Starbucks to grab some coffee but this leads to another part of Long Island you’ve never been to.
“A few weeks ago I discovered a new coffee place” Mat says with a smile “I think you’re gonna like it”
A few more minutes go by and when he finally parks the car in front of a shopping complex, you see a tiny coffee shop with plants and plants on the sidewalk.
“Babe! That’s amazing, how did you find this place?” you ask as you two step into the shop and the coffee smell hits you. It’s small and cozy, and you love it.
“I was pissed after a practice and I wanted to vent. So I drove around the city and ended up here somehow. Been coming here for the past... I don’t know, two weeks?” Mat answers and his smile tells you he loves the place as much as you do.
“I love it” you say and his smile grows bigger.
“It’s great, right? It smells good and wait until you try their strawberry muffin. It’s the best in this entire state” your boyfriend says and goes straight to the counter.
He tells you all about his trips here. Every time you were at uni or at work and he couldn’t come by, he came here and ordered something. He tried all their muffin flavors and is now trying their croissants.
“It’s like my comfort place now. Every time Trotz tries to kill us with the drills or I mess something up and can’t be with you, this is my go to” he says with the sweetest smile “I mean, it’s not as good as cuddling with my favorite person but at least the food is good”
You hold back a loud laugh and gives him a little peck.
“You’re my favorite person too, baby” he smiles again and kisses you “And this is now our comfort place. You shouldn’t have brought me here”
“You’re a pain in the ass but I think I can live with that” Mat gives you a soft shove and you two laugh.
You love this little moments with your boyfriend. The pre hockey season period is never calm for the players but he still manages to find some time to spend with you. Even if he’s super tired from practices or long road trips, Mat makes time for you and couldn’t be more thankful for his efforts to make it work.
He’s away for a long time during the season and you knew it wouldn’t be easy but you and Mat make it work. These moments are the ones you know your relationship will survive the lows and the long periods of time without seeing each other. And it makes you love him even more.
