What was a future with the people you care for most not in it?
Simon had gone through so many hardships in his life, some that the girl was not privy to, some that she was. He had lost his blood brother, he had lost his family. Barely a thing left for him to have won, the singular lasting victory to be the demolition of the threat to the world he knew. Loss tainted that triumph, the woman that now stood behind him silently having disintegrated on their wedding day.
Adrift in the atmosphere, Nia had accepted her fate. Simon had as well, evocating his resolve to his friends of any chance of bringing her back. If only the world had such hardening, perhaps she would have not emerged after time had passed in a field of flowers.
Traversing the world, finding the place where they had marked as a grave for her, it had taken longer than Nia had wanted to return to this place. A field of flowers surrounding, beautiful and blossoming around the tomb. Despite the casket being empty, Nia was drawn to it, a part of her lingering at the spot.
To her astonishment, dark hair stood before the monument, an offering of fresh flowers laid before him on the stone.
Nia wanted to call out to him, breathe out anything for him to hear her. The ache in her chest was crippling as she approached, her feet halting only a short few steps away from him. This man was so within reach, so close. Yet every time the woman opened her mouth, nothing emerged.
It was Simon. Nia knew it had to be, it was her Simon.
Hearing his words flow brought new breath to her lungs that she was certain had only the capacity for small, squeezed air in the previous moments. Floret eyes closed briefly as a hand gingerly laid over her thrumming heart only to open with glistening droplets adoring her lashes like jewels.
Now that Nia had been brought back with the Earth’s spiral energy and the yearning from those she cared for, would it still be a future that he could have? A future she could have with him?
Questions rushing to her lips, the pucker of soft skin pulling into a smile as instead a tentative motion of her tongue brought forth her first spoken words to Simon in her current constructed state. “The future you pierced the heavens for…” Her melodic voice was soft, only to bar back the joy that saturated her tone some. “I’m so happy it came to be true.”
A tear escaped the rim of her eye, dashing down her right cheek. “This world is so beautiful because you did so much to make it better, Simon.”
