I've always felt an odd form of safety in this class; not just like safe from physical harm, but I've felt like I can really express myself most of the time. I've also noticed that a lot of honesty and sometimes vulnerability goes into being a good English teacher. You've let me empathize with your life experiences in order to learn. And I feel as if not many teachers have the guts to be an English teacher, but you do.

I shared Christy’s story today. Oddly, a student wrote this in her free-write journal before she even knew what we were doing today. 

Watching these kids grow and flex their empathy muscles right in front of my eyes is so so worth all the guts and vulnerability I left on my floor today.
