Final Fantasy 9 Thoughts

My first play-through of Final Fantasy IX ever, and I've finished Disc 1.  Here are my thoughts:

Why did I spend 4 hours digging holes in the ground with a chococococobo?  I felt compelled to get all of the chocographs.  But why?

Steiner is my favorite character because of reasons. 

Vivi is my second favorite character, because he's sitting in for the viewer.  His reaction to most things is "I don't know what the hell is going on, but it bothers me."  And that's what I'm experiencing.

Taking away my white mage?  Taking.  Away.  My.  White.  Mage.  Who gave you that right?  Who.  Gave you.  That right.  I've never used or bought so many potions in my life.  

I find that I don't care about Zidane.  Almost everyone else has a compelling backstory that informs me as to their actions at the moment, and which increases interest.  Zidane, however, has a tail.  so protagonist. very main character. such story.   Maybe it will get better as I progress, but right now I find I'm more interested in Quina than I am in Zidane. 

I decided that Garnet being called Dagger was a dumb choice on her part, so in my version she's going by the very secret name of Garnet2.

I laughed out loud at Kuja's crotch shot, mostly because I couldn't understand how his balls were fitting into that little codpiece without uncomfortable levels of compression.  

Why do I feel compelled to spend hours deciphering kweh? for a series of chocobo-related rewards? 

Single-use bell door locks seems a bit impractical, but I guess I'm not designing doorway systems in fantasy realms.  

WE COULD FLY THIS AIRSHIP ANYWHERE, BUT WE'RE GOING TO GO THROUGH THIS GATE FOR AIRSHIPS UP AHEAD BECAUSE THERE'S A PHYSICAL GATE FOR AIRSHIPS FOR SOME REASON.
