In an attempt to remain somewhat calm and keep my anxiety in check I’ve been re-reading some of my favorite YA fiction, because you know, #comforting.
Next on the list was Meg Cabot’s Mediator series.
(Side note, it’s a fucking TRAVESTY that there is not a larger fandom around these books, I was heartbroken about it at 13 and I still am today.)
Anyway - so I do a quick google search and...
BE STILL MY LITTLE FANDOM LOVING HEART...
Meg Cabot has written TWO MORE books for this series in the last 15 years and she wrote them for an adult audience!! This beautiful women has not only given us new content but also let that content grow up right alongside the readers.
Also important - it appears that she did NOT attempt to be edgy by killing off main characters, ruining established character growth, or otherwise sabotaging meaningful plot points for no apparent reason other than it’s “unconventional”
In summary... if you need me - I’ll be over here hyperventilating and then re-reading the originals so that I can properly enjoy the new books.

My little brothers name starts with an A, so instead of Uncle, my five year old calls him "Ankle"
The other day it was "Mr Ankle"
He was conflicted on how he feels about the nickname

When I hear that anyone I know is depressed or anxious or having a hard time in any way I feel insanely guilty if I've been feeling okay. Then I get completely preoccupied with worrying about other people to the point where I can't focus on my own life at all and it takes a lot of self restraint to leave other people alone and stop myself from asking if they're okay all the time. It's stupid because I really have no control over people's lives or how people feel but I want everyone to be okay. I'm constantly forcing myself to pretend that I don't care at all or that it doesn't bother me but sometimes I worry that it makes people think I don't care about them. But if I don't just pretend I don't care then I get way too emotionally involved and I have a tendency to be very codependent. I have no idea how to separate my feelings from the feelings of people I care about. I also have no idea how to tell people how I feel without feeling extremely vulnerable and/or guilty because I don't want anyone to have to accommodate my feelings. I'm just stuck
