i need art of mollymauk sprawled sideways across fjords lap like some sort of smug, ambiguously gay monarch/villain on a throne
obsessed with kit recently
Every day I go on tumblr and learn more things abt 🚗☀️ against my will - 🏥
THIS IS JUST SO
I’m gonna start with shifters so i can distinguish the difference between them and werewolves/were-beasts tbh
Shifters’ ability to change form is inherently magical, and while there are natural shifters it’s more just a natural ability to tap into the magic that allows them to shift. The main difference between a shifter and a were-beast is that their transformations are never involuntary, and they only take the form of an animal.
Were-beasts tend to take more humanoid forms, or forms that are entirely removed from any recognizable animal. Their transformations are often involuntary, though they can be controlled through medicine, magic, or sheer willpower. They also tend to rampage, and/or lose some sentience in their beast form.
Shifters might pick up a few of the traits of their animal forms, but were-beasts go beyond simple animal desires and fall right into the savage/bloodthirsty category.
Were-beasts are also considered creatures of the light, like undead or drinkers. They can also spread lycanthropy via bite, though the form of the inflicted depends on the troll. I.E. A troll bitten by a werewolf might turn into a werebear instead. They still retain the base nature of a were-beast.
Also like drinkers and undead, were-beasts feed off the latent magical energy in troll bodies (or in the bodies of magical creatures). The more they feed, or the more they train their magical ability, the more powerful they’ll become. Powerful were-beasts might be exceedingly physically strong, have impenetrable hide, or extend their shifted form through the night when they would usually revert to their normal form. The abilities depend on the individual.
A mage who becomes a were-beast might be very powerful by default, without having to feed.
Some were-beasts can revert or shift at will, though it usually takes considerable effort in either case, especially with reverting.
Tumblr user deadpan-sexual goes to find one person that follows her.
Her eyes widen as she sees her number of followers.
Sixty.
She stares at the number, before finally letting a single word pass her lips.
"No."
