Trust and betrayal are opposite sides of a dichotomy. They're one of those dichotomies that fall apart if one side of it disappears. Trust can't exist without the threat of betrayal. It exists in spite of and because of the existence of betrayal. Riding this cycle, breaking trust and taking it back anyway, can be an intense part of making a connection with another person.
