“Please hold still,” you murmured, grasping your brush a little tighter between your fingers. “This was your idea…”

You still weren’t sure how things had escalated to this. All Kalim had said yesterday was that he wasn’t very good at doing his eye makeup. But now? Now you were on his lap, close enough to feel the soft, warm drafts of his breath ghosting across your neck.

“I know,” Kalim grins, his arms snaking around your waist, thumbs tracing idle circles like it was second nature. “So forgive me if I want to enjoy this as much as I can~”

His lashes fluttered when you swept a bit more color onto his eyelid, and he let out a quiet hum. His skin was warm beneath your touch; he let out the tiniest breath when your thumb steadied the outer corner of his eye. Then you leaned in closer, close enough that the tip of his nose almost grazed your cheek.

“You’re so focused…” Kalim whispered, as if afraid to disrupt the moment.

“Hush,” You teased, not stopping for a second, “If you move right now, we’ll have to start all over.”

“Sounds great to me!”

“Kalim!”

You shot him a look, the kind meant to scold, but his bright and carefree expression completely derailed your attempt. His shoulders shook with a silent laugh, and he tightened his arms around your waist like he expected you to wriggle away.

“I’m serious.” You steadied his cheek with your thumb, checking your work out from every angle. The soft lighting caught the shimmer on his eyelid, blending perfectly with his warm complexion.

“I’m also serious!” He protested, tilting his head ever so slightly toward your touch, like he couldn’t help seeking it. “If it means having you here, hovering over me like this again? I’ll gladly sit through as many redos as it takes!”

You felt the faintest warmth rise to your cheeks; he always did that, throwing out affection like breathing — never shy, always sincere. His lashes brushed your thumb as he blinked up at you, his smile stretching into something soft, genuine. You tried to keep your hand steady, but the warmth in his voice made your fingers falter just slightly.

“You’re impossible…”

“Okay, okay!” He chuckled — a soft, breathy sound that fluttered against your jaw. “I’ll behave! For real this time.”

His arms tighten around your waist.

“...Probably.”
