“No, sorry, you laughed. I … I never saw it before. It’s — pretty.” from watrlog...

She has to make a solid effort and fix her eyes very hard on Fjord’s armor, when he starts to ask her what’s up, to keep herself from giving it all away. Out of the corner of her eye she can still see Jester — tongue out in concentration, tail flicking — as she paints a dick on Caleb, who is too deep in a text to notice. She would not interfere for anything. Alice tried to stifle a laugh, but apparently not so well. And the smile after the laugh hasn’t completely gone yet, when Fjord says that, and she actually looks at him.
It’s kind of a strange look. Bemused. As if to say, what do you mean, of course you have. After a moment, she realizes it’s flattery. Another moment before she realizes it’s not, because he hasn’t. Ever seen her laugh.
“Oh.” After a hesitation, “I didn’t know you were paying attention,” which is truthful, without selling out Jester. Alice elbows Fjord in the ribs, very gently. “Maybe one day you’ll start making better jokes and see it more often, yeah?”
