While I’m not jumping ship just yet, I am planning on moving to another site sometime in the new year.
Here’s a fun fact about trees, you can kill them quite easily, it just takes them 5 years to die.
The roots of trees are very shallow, and if you stomp around the base, you will kill it. Not because you’re breaking the roots, but because you’re compacting the soil, suffocating the tree.
Staff, instead dealing with the numerous problems of this site, just went ahead and stomped on the roots of Tumblr.
I’ve had a lot of fun in this fandom. I think back on dickourse, the debate over whether Bum or Sangwoo had the flat ass, the time a random dog got into the tag and became the unofficial doggo of KS, the time we almost held a fictional wedding, the funny mistakes antis would make (like Bum being a 15yo boy and Sangwoo being a necrophiliac), and how we out trended Christmas.
I also think back on the more serious conversations we had. When we talked about rape and consent, and about mental illness and abusive relationships. People shared their thoughts and experiences, and gave me a deeper understanding of these difficult and sometimes uncomfortable topics.
I’m not sure how many of us will be leaving after today and in the coming weeks. But even if most of us do stay, we can’t create content like we used to. I’ve been lucky that none of my art has been falsely flagged, but there are already posts that I can no longer make because of the new rules.
As much as I’ve enjoyed these last few years on Tumblr, things will change after Dec 17. I’ll continue to post here, as well as after I move to a different platform. But I’m not very optimistic about the future of this website.
