As a 13th generation American, I am deeply offended by Donald Trump's interpretation of what makes this country "great" and the hateful things that have come out of his mouth throughout the campaign. Listening to his acceptance speech in the early morning hours of Wednesday the 9th was painful, to say the least. People are not happy with his election, and we can't just forgive and forget the awful things he's said and promised to do to women, immigrants, the environment (among others). Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote, said in her concession speech that, "Fighting for what's right is never wrong." Yesterday @derrickbusch and I joined 10,000 people in a peaceful demonstration to exercise our First Amendment right to make our voices heard, and numbers seen. This crowd included representatives of a myriad of issues and causes, not just people who are angered by Trump- although that is what brought us all together. Somewhere down towards the front of this crowd I am yelling for a women's right to choose and carrying a big homemade sign that reads, "Liberty. Dignity. Unity." I would like to tell Donald Trump that these three core values are what make America great. Not fear, hatred, and division. If his administration is willing to honor these values, without discrimination, then I think we can make this country even better. BUT- to paraphrase a recent tweet by Bernie- if he continues to use hatred and bigotry and ignorance to turn people against each other, against women, against muslims, against the LGBTQ community, against immigrants, against the environment, and against our core American values... then we will be his worst nightmare.
