I'm soooooo glad you mentioned that A.V. Club article. That's the review I asked you guys about. I just disagree w/ them re: Jake/Amy. "Weighing the ep down"? How about no? They have valid points but it just rubs me the wrong way. *rant over* Btw, what are your thoughts re: the newly released promo pics for 2x05? I feel like Jake & Amy caught Gina & Charles or something. ;D
Nah, girl, rant away. We're here for you. *listening face*
I definitely disagree that the J/A stuff is weighing the episode down. I also take umbrage with that reviewer characterizing every Jake+Amy interaction as inherently shippy; as the fandom has noted (and Carl and I noted repeatedly) Jake can (and does) interact with Amy in a purely friendly manner on repeat occasions, even though he has The Feelings for her.
I've also mentioned my constant, ongoing "man I sympathize" situation, 'cause I went through something similar for a while, and I'll repeat what I've said on the podcast before: I've had strong feelings for a person and still had interactions with them that weren't constantly and consistently colored by my feelings for him. I think that reviewer is ready to dislike the pairing, or at least the purported "problems" (all the scare quotes) it'll cause.
I mean, if I'm being honest: I think we're a year away from Jake and Amy actually getting together. I want to see Jake have a mature, respectable relationship (or two) and for Amy to get her headspace spelled out in the narrative. Jake is so exothermic about his emotions; we know all of them because he gives them all to us. Amy, despite her terrific, wonderful, perfectly expressive face, is playing this one close to the vest. I want more of her inner narrative before we put them together.
J+A TOTALLY DID CATCH THEM. And I think they have a Serious Conversation (Fancy Brudgom throwback maybe?) about Boyle and Gina and that whole thing. (Also, props to Carl for finding and reblogging those pics; I totally missed them because I'm the worst.)
