🚨PSA: For my “All Lives Matter” folk 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 When the Boston Marathon was bombed, we supported with “Boston Strong” and no one said “All Cities Strong!” When the Sandy Hook Massacre occured we supported with “Newtown Strong” and “We Stand With Sandy Hook!” When the Las Vegas shooting happened we supported with “Stand With Vegas” and no one said “what about the people who got shot in my city?” Have you ever seen anyone counter a “Breast Cancer” post with “what about lung cancer?” But, for some reason “Black Lives Matter” has turned into all inclusive “All Lives Matter” protest. We are peaceful people! We are organized people! It is “all rebels” taking advantage of the #BLM movement and creating the negative narrative. Finally, we have video of “Black Men & Women” being murdered by bad police officers and can prove why we are fighting for justice. The casualties are the same. So, can you “All Lives Matter” folk let us have this one without creating conflict? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Get it? 🤦🏻‍♀️ If not, you don’t want to get it and you are part of the problem. Stop telling me to stop being angry. Let's talk about slur reclamation, shall we? Today I was faced with someone who believes having a learning disability & neurodivergence means it's okay for her to call people she doesn't agree with "r*tards." So, let's talk about this. What is a slur? A slur is a word or phrase used against minority & marginalized groups, usually by oppressors. Slur reclamation happens when a member or a group of members decides to adopt the slur and use it for themselves, thus deflating the power of the slur. It is only for the marginalized people to use for themselves IF they decide to use it. For example: I am physically disabled. Physically disabled people are marginalized. We have long been the target of eugenics (approximately 200,000 physically & mentally disabled people were murdered under Hitler's rein), ridicule, harassment, murder, all that good stuff. "Cripple" is a slur used against the physically disabled. I have reclaimed that slur. When I post a picture of myself in which you can see a mobility aid of mine (cane, rollator, wheelchair), I often use the #cripplepunk hashtag. I do NOT use the word to describe anyone besides myself, and I certainly do not use it to insult other people. I hope everyone who doesn't quite understand this will be willing to do some more research on the topic. Being anonymous is exhausting. When you are screaming as loud as you can just to be heard, but are forgotten two seconds later it becomes harder and harder to stand up and scream. And easier and easier to just tuck yourself away and sink beneath the surface never to be seen again. -Me.
