but, Why?
Education leads to compassion, compassion leads to communication, communication leads to understanding, understanding leads to awareness, awareness leads to empowerment, empowerment allows one to empower others through education, and the cycle repeats. This is how you solve problems, because its a local on the ground always active approach to activism, in your communities, in your workplaces, in your schools, that always changes things. You can't change anything by telling people it needs to be changed, but when an issue arises in a social context, say such as racism, sexism, ableism and general ignorance of important issues, you can educate those around you so that they can look at the issue from a more compassionate viewpoint instead of the usual shunning it gets, due to an ability to grasp the situation newly without contempt. Then it spreads. I don't think people understand that to do good does not mean you do certain acts and then your responsibility to the world and to doing whats right is over, because you accumulated enough 'good points' it means a constant engagement with life and adherence to your principles, because change comes from within. I'd even go so far to say that the culture of special interest groups fighting for equal rights takes this as an issue away from the streets and the young developing mind and turns it into a political issue, as far away and dense as things can get for most young minds. Therefore being an activist consists of standing up for your principles day in and day out in social, familial and professional situations. It means being that change, and not just being that changed for 3 hours at a rally one saturday and then going home and submitting to all those people and things in your life you don't agree with in order that no confrontation be had. It means every conversation, it means every encounter. Spread the love, Basedworld.
