Hello! So this is a little weird posting on social media, but I would really like to nominate my brother, Travis. I know a lot of people will nominate their best friends, but to me, my brother is my best friend. I am the only child of my parents. By that I mean, my dad has kids and my mom has kids, but I’m the only one of them together. Growing up wasn’t really easy, I lost a sister and I guess I was somehow to blame according to my older siblings even though I still had to have someone sit with me in the bathroom just to make sure I didn’t fall into the toilet. That’s not the point, however. Travis was the only one that ever treated me like I was his full-blooded sibling. He never saw me as a demon just because I had some relation to this new guy his mom was dating, and he never said “this is my half sister.” He never says that about me to this day. I’m always, “Maddy, my lil pain in the butt sister.” I’d take that any day over half sister. We were so close growing up and still are. We played hotwheels together and played in the mud together and we’d always do something together. But then he turned 17 and joined the military. He’s done two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and is now a loving father to two adorable little kids and a baby girl to be born this month. He has not only affected my life, but all those he saved in other countries. My brother has always had my back, and there’s no way I could ever begin to thank him. So I guess this would be a way to start. Something to thank him for always being there when no one else was. Making sure I was always okay even when he was on the other side of the world. Never treating me any different. Taking me fishing all summer the first time he got leave to come home. And especially getting us stuck in the lake on a four wheeler going mudding. ‘Cause to me it was all the little things he did that made him my big brother. He never had to do anything significant to be my “hero.” He was just him, and he deserves to be recognized because he’s such a great man and doesn’t expect anything in return. He honestly has a heart of gold and it would be awesome if he could be recognized by the organization.
