i’m almost done with reading the hobbit and i am devastated. this was supposed to be a children’s book thIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHILDRENS BOOK YALL. i’m broken, this man really was devastated when thorin died and he cried until his voice was hoarse and he couldn’t even make a joke for a long time he. and i’ve watched the movie and they spent more time showing thorins death and making that bit sadder but no one warned me about bilbo’s reaction. my heart hurts for this little man who cared about these dwarves so much. he spent their whole journey together only for it to end with the people he cares about dying in a battle he tried so hard to avoid. i’m going to cry i’m gonna cry right now why did no one prepare me for how devastatingly sad bilbos reaction to it was
Cream of Mushroom Soup
Chef’s Note: It’s thinner than you may think because its more broth than cream. Best served hot
Original recipe [link]
Makes: ~7 cups
Ingredients
1 tbsp + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup white onion (~1 small onion)
2 garlic clove, minced
4 cans (6.5 oz undrained) mushroom (~3 cup)
1/2 tsp dried thyme
2 tbsp all purpose flour
(opt.) 1 to 2 tbsp cooking sherry/ white wine
4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1/2 to 1 cup heavy cream or half and half
~1/4 tsp salt (just, go to taste)
Instructions
1. Add 1 tbsp butter to a large pot. Sauté onion on medium/medium-low heat until soft
2. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Add 1 tbsp butter, mushrooms, and thyme. Cook until mushrooms are soft, and moisture cooks off.

5. Add broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for a few minutes until smooth and thickened
6. Add cream and reduce to low heat. Heat for at least 5 minutes to make flavors mix
7. Serve with crackers
i think we should sexualize gandalf more
every time the book mentions bilbo being little and tiny and small i just
bungo baggins gets pegged regularly i know this tolkien told me himself
i think i wanna talk about how i got into the hobbit/lotr and my friend shay. shay loves the hobbit. they showed me the movies for lotr first and then hobbit cuz that’s the order they came out,, and we did it over twoseven and shit quality zoom screenshares. it was a bit frustrating to use with the lagging but we both enjoyed it so much!! i brought snacks on my way home from work every single time, got obsessed with marshmallows and wished i could be sitting next to them to share it. and you know what the movies were pretty damn good. i recently finished reading the hobbit and now i'm starting lotr.
i have a secret though. the movies were good of course they were, but not amazing enough to get me to read the book (and i don’t say that in a bad way at all, i just mean we watched it like any casual fan would). i loved the characters and their journey in both the series but to me it would have been just another movie, just another fantasy series. but shay was so excited. he cared about these characters so much, showed it to me so enthusiastically, and talked about how they sang songs from it growing up, that i couldn’t help but love it their way as well. so now i'm on chapter 1 of lord of the rings after i finished the hobbit. and i’m screaming about it to my friend as i make my way through it.
shay loves the hobbit. and i love shay. i hope they never stop loving the hobbit.
