A/N: Here’s another request. They asked for this fic to be gender fluid, so I did my best. I hope I did a good job. As usual, please let us know if you have any feedback! Also, REQUESTS ARE OPEN!
Request: hi! could I request a peter parker x reader college au where the reader failed two of their classes and they feel like an idiot, so peter comforts them? (and if possible, could you write the reader as genderfluid/or using they/them pronouns? if not, she/her is fine I guess) -anonymous
You felt the anger, shock, and despair overflow inside you as you stared at your computer screen. Not one, but two failures. Two!! You felt tears drop past your eyelids in heavy and hot pods. You wanted to scream. You spent hours studying. Hours! You gave up your plans to go to the mall with your friends to study. You gave up watching your favorite Netflix show to study. You gave up your entire social life to study. And you failed. To make matters worse, you had the cutest dork in the entire world try to help you understand the material. He couldn’t help you. You failed two of your classes. These weren’t high school classes you could just retake either. You had to pay hundreds to take them, plus an absurd amount of fees that no one really knew why you had to pay. You growled and choked on a sob, burying your face in your hands. Your emotions got the best of you and you screamed, howling like a wounded animal. You failed.
You were so busy sobbing your life away that you didn’t hear the gentle tap on your dorm window. You were hunched on your dorm floor, your laptop resting on your shaking legs as you sobbed heavily and loudly. You didn’t hear your dorm window gently creak open. You didn’t hear someone slip through the open window and close it. You didn’t notice anything except your anger and disappointment until you felt something brush your arm. You gasped and swatted at the thing, instinctively crawling away a little bit. You looked at what touched you. It was a boy with thick brown wavy hair, big doe eyes, and pink lips. He was sitting next to you and wore a t-shirt with the imaginary number sign and the symbol for pi. The imaginary number sign had a speech bubble that said “get rational!” to the pi sign. The pi sign said, “get real!”.
“Peter,” You said softly between sobs. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m a complete idiot.” You sobbed again. Peter’s brows crinkled and he scooted closer to you.
“(Y/N), what’s wrong?” He asked, genuine concern in his voice and eyes. Curse his sweetness. You tried to gather yourself, gasping as you attempted to calm down.
“I failed those two classes you tried to help me with, Peter,” You rasped. “I’m an idiot.” You sobbed again and held a hand over your mouth to stifle your sobs. Peter wrapped an arm around you and pulled you close.
“Sh sh sh sh sh,” He said gently, rubbing your upper arm. “You’re not an idiot.” He rested his head on top of yours gently. “You’re one of the smartest people I know. You’re always willing to learn, and you’re determined to do well at everything you try. You literally said “goodbye, social life!” two weeks before the test so you would have time to study. I think that’s admirable.” You couldn’t help but smile a little at Peter’s attempt to cheer you up. He was always willing to help people, whether he liked them or not. You even saw him erase and correct some wrong answers on Flash Thompson’s homework in class one day. You loved that about Peter. You were sure he only tutored you because it helping people was simply in his nature, but the amount of effort and time he put into it made your heart melt.
“Thanks, Pete,” You mumble, burying your head into Peter’s chest. It was surprisingly firm, but you weren’t protesting. You felt Peter take in a deep breath and his breathing seemed to still. You lifted your head up, looking at him. “You all right there, Peter?” His cheeks were beet red, and his eyes were popping out of his skull.
“Y--y-yeah!” Peter stammered quickly. He threw his arm back around you and pulled you close, rather violently. Your head thunked against Peter’s chin with a loud clunk and you both grunted at the pain. “S-s-sorry,” Peter mumbled shortly. With your head on his chest, you could hear and feel his heart racing at a million miles an hour. How was he not suffering from a heart attack at that racing heartbeat? You chuckled slightly. You always liked Peter’s dorkiness, and how awkward he was with people.
“It’s okay,” You said, feeling your sorrow melt a little bit. Peter was here.

Part 2
You felt tears well in your eyes as you clenched your fists. An F. Again. And in your first class of the day! This math class was going to be the end of you. You pulled three all-nighters and spent every moment of spare time studying for the past week and a half preparing for this test. To fail was the worst feeling ever. Words couldn’t describe the anger, hurt, and disappointment that consumed every molecule of your being. You just wanted this class to end. You loathed it. The teacher sometimes tried to help you, but you were often pushed aside because “they were too busy at the moment”. You needed a tutor. And fast.
You glanced around the classroom, looking to see if anyone looked like they understood what was going on. The teacher was writing an example on the board for the class to complete. Some people were scribbling down the problem as the teacher wrote it. Some people sat back in their chairs and stared at the board, clearly lost. But there was one student with their hand raised. A boy. He sat two rows over and one seat back from you. The teacher turned around, saw the boy and called on him.
“The answer is f of x equals plus or minus the square root of seventeen,” He said, slightly proud. The boy saw you looking at him and he blushed furiously, turning his cheeks a deep red, and quickly looked down at his desk, thoroughly intrigued with a mark on the corner. You bit back a smile and glanced back at the board. The teacher was proving that blushing boy’s answer was correct. You felt a small surge of triumph erupt in your chest. Looks like you found a tutor.
After class got out, you started packing up your things, glancing over at the boy. He was packing his things too but in slow motion. By the time you had all of your notes, pens, and books in your bag, he had only put away his pencil. You weaved around the desks to him, not able to fight your smile.
“Hey,” You said, politely cheerful. The boy’s eyes widened and his hands seemed to try to cover his chest, pick up his backpack and zip it at the same time, resulting in a seizure-like movement. He fumbled for a full two seconds with his backpack before he finally managed to get it over his shoulders. He planted a hand on his desk, using his other hand to smooth a strand of hair that fell from his strangely attractive combover.
“Hi,” he said, staring at your feet, his cheeks bright red.
“So, I’m failing this class, and I need a tutor. Can you help? I’ll pay you.” You said, not able to cover the desperation in your voice. The boy glanced up at you, and your eyes met briefly. They were the richest brown you had ever seen, and they made your heart and your stomach do a waltz, fluttering and twirling.
“Y-you’re failing?” The boy asked, genuinely surprised. “You seem so smart!”
You scoffed, blushing a little at the compliment. “Thanks, but math isn’t my forte. So, can you help me?”
“Y-yeah! To-totally!” He said enthusiastically. You smiled even wider, feeling your heart lift and flutter like it never had before. His mood seemed contagious.
“Great! Thank you so much! Can I get your name?” You exclaimed, holding out your hand, offering a handshake. The boy’s eyes widened when he saw your hand and was frozen as if this common gesture was completely alien. You giggled for the thousandth time and grabbed his hand yourself, shaking it. The boy’s eyes remained in that bulged position, but they stared at yours. His mouth drooped open, and you suddenly had the urge to kiss him. You shook your head slightly and let go of his hand.
“So, my name is (Y/N). Can I get your name?” You asked again.
“P-pe” The boy stuttered endlessly, still blushing and eyes bulging. Good gosh, this guy had problems.
“For the love of Pete, his name is Peter!” A voice shouted. You started, glancing around the classroom. A boy, around Peter’s age, stood in the doorway, arms crossed and a look of exasperation on his face. The boy was a bit on the large side, and he had darker skin. He waddled to you, holding out his hand.
“I’m Ned. This dude’s best friend, unfortunately,” The boy said, shaking your hand and motioning towards Peter with his head when he mentioned Mr. Blush. You glanced from Peter to the other boy, Ned. Ned had an eyebrow raised, glaring at Peter. Peter was staring at the ground, shuffling his feet and shoving his hands in and out of his pockets, clearly embarrassed.
“Well then, Peter, let’s meet in the library after school. I’ll be by the classics section.” You said, adjusting your backpack. “Bye, Peter. Nice to meet you, Ned.” You nodded to both boys, turned on your heel and walked out of the classroom. Right before you closed the door, you heard a smack and a high-pitched “OW!”. You barely stifled a giggle as you closed the door. This would be way more entertaining than you thought.
After school, you shuffled through the library shelves, taking your time and running your fingers over the spines of the books gently as you passed. You inhaled deeply, savoring the slightly musty smell of books. The smell made your heart slow and you felt peace and excitement settle into every fiber of your being. You loved books deeply. They were friends that were always ready to listen to your troubles, never betrayed secrets, and let you completely engulf yourself in another world and let you fall in love with characters. You smiled and when you reached the end of the aisle, you turned, to where the only table in the classics section was. Peter beat you there. He already had his textbook open, papers strewn across the table and seemed completely engrossed in his work.
You leaned against the bookshelf, staring at Peter. You had never seen someone, let alone a guy, so engrossed in school work before. Most people had the look of extreme confusion as they tried to finish the homework assignment before class started in ten minutes. But Peter, he seemed to thoroughly understand, and what’s more, appreciate math and science. The fact that he knew the answer to the sample problem in class so quickly was a sign of his intelligence. He obviously was very awkward socially, and normally you go for the stereotypical smooth guys, who always knew what to say at just the right time. But to meet this guy, this random guy with a strength for math, was very unexpected. You glanced over at the bookshelves, scanning for a novel you wanted to read between study breaks. You found “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, one of your favorites. You seized the novel, feeling the soft, worn pages underneath your fingertips as you stroked them, trudging towards the table.
As you approached, Peter was still deeply involved in his work, his soft pink lips moving slightly as he worked through a problem. You slung your backpack off your shoulders, letting it hit the ground with a thud. Peter jumped up, his pencil falling out of his hand as he thrust it forward, pulling his middle fingers in, leaving the other ones sticking out, palm facing up. The intensity in his eyes was so startling that it stole your breath, making you back up a step. Peter realized it was you and his eyes bulged, just as they had done in the classroom. He lowered his hand, fixing his shirt and jacket, glancing at the table, the all-too-familiar blush rising to his cheeks. He clenched his jaw and shuffled his papers into a pile, making room for you.
“Sorry,” He mumbled, not looking in your direction. You let out a breath you didn’t realize you had been holding and stepped toward the table, dropping your book on the surface.
“What the heck was that?” You asked, trying to imitate the motion Peter did with his hands. “Was that, like mystic mojo or something?” Peter chuckled slightly, still not looking at you.
“No. It was.. It was, uh…. I-it was um uh…” Peter stuttered again, blushing more and shuffling papers more viciously. He flung one hand too hard against the stack, and all of his pile of papers exploded into the air, some flying straight up, and some flying to the side. As the papers fluttered toward the ground, you couldn’t stifle your giggle as Peter titled his head back and sighed, mumbling several swear words under his breath. You started gathering Peter’s papers, feeling bad for the dork.
Peter started rounding up some of the papers, too. You gathered all the ones you had, making sure they were faced the same way and stacked evenly. You held them out to Peter. It took him a bit to notice, as he was still focused on gathering his portion of the mess. When he saw, his eyes widened a bit and he glanced at you. His deep brown eyes were layered with shock, tenderness, affirmation and confusion. It was like he had never experienced a simple act of kindness before. He slowly reached his hand out, extending two fingers like pinchers to grab the stack. You giggled, which seemed to throw him off and as you let go of the papers, he didn’t have a grip on them, and they all fell, covering the table. Peter groaned and hit his palm against his head, frustrated and embarrassed.
“Man, Peter,” You said, chuckling. “You just can’t keep yourself together around me, huh?”
“Obviously,” Peter scoffed. “You have no idea what you’ve done to me.” He glanced at you, your eyes meeting. You felt your heart speed up, and you got lost in his eyes.
“What have I done to you, Peter?” You said softly. You glanced at Peter’s lips, wanting nothing more than to kiss him and hold him close. Why these feelings were so strong, considering that you met the guy a couple hours ago was bizarre. When you glanced back up at Peter’s eyes, you found that he was staring at the floor.
“Frankenstein,” Peter whispered back.
“What?” You said, the odd comment breaking the semi-romantic and cliche moment.
“Frankenstein,” Peter said, pointing towards the novel you plucked off the shelf earlier. “It’s the only classic I’ve read and actually understood. I mean, the guy somehow managed to take a body and put life back into it! Like, what? How? I want to know how he did it. I want to know how he managed to use the electrical power from the lightning to somehow create life. I mean, he could have used it as a makeshift defibrillator, but even then, you would have to somehow get the lightning to strike the body. And considering that the body was probably brain dead…” Peter’s rambling about the details of Frankenstein’s monster made your heart thump even faster. You completely zoned out on what he was saying, but the look on his face, as he focused on the details, the logic, the how, made his face light up like a little boy on Christmas morning, his hands moving around excitedly, unable to contain everything he felt in that moment. You smiled, and just watched him try to work through the science fiction.
A loud boom broke your reverie. You heard screaming and sirens. You glanced at Peter and saw that he was bolting to the nearest window.
“Peter!” You shouted. The boy stopped and turned on his heel, facing you. His lips were parted, and he looked ready to spring into action. “What are you doing?”
“I uh, I ha-have to uh, do s-something!” Peter stammered, pointing over his shoulder towards the window as another explosion rattled the building. “Get out of here!” Peter’s voice changed, waving his hands around, trying to communicate as strongly as he could. He turned toward the window and pushed on the window frame with ease. The frame popped out and the glass fell on the ground below, shattering into a million pieces. You ran towards the window as Peter climbed out.
“Peter, no!” You screamed, unsure of why you suddenly felt the urge to protect him. You reached the window sill and grabbed Peter’s arm. He wheeled around, confused and a strand of his wavy brown hair falling over his brow as his eyes met yours. You felt your chest heave a bit with the exertion, gripping his bicep tighter. Gosh, this guy seemed buff. “Be careful, ok? I really don’t want to fail this class.” Peter sighed and chuckled, gently pulling his arm out of your grasp.
“I’ll be fine. And I’ll be back to help you with the homework. I promise.” He smiled again and suddenly disappeared. You looked around in confusion. Where did he go? One moment he was here, right in front of you, the next, he was gone. You sighed.
“Look! It’s Spider-Man!” Someone shouted. You glanced up, and sure enough, Spider-Man, red and blue suit, swung through the air.
“Here comes your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!” The hero shouted, flipping in the air and launching his signature web at the next building, hurrying toward the accident. You smiled. Man, Peter would love to meet this guy, if he was practically drooling over Frankenstein’s monster. You rested your head on the window sill, watching Spider-Man disappear between buildings. Whoa, you think you might be falling for this nerd.
