Thoughts about Adam from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Spoilers... Sorta... Only from the book, really.
So, I was just thinking… Why did they have to create the character "Adam" when they already had a character with open potential to be the main antagonist? I’m speaking, of course, of Thomas Crowley. I mean… he’s the one who turned Henry, and it was never explained what happened to him. Plus there was also the baby Virginia Dare. In the book Crowley fed on her, but they could have changed it in the movie to where he raised her into a young woman, molding and warping her mind into believing Vampires were the all powerful race, and then changing her into one when she turned 21 (or w/e age is most appropriate). I could even see him taking her as his lover. Would be demented and kind of gross, but probably less than him sucking the blood of an infant child. Virginia then could have taken the place of Vadoma… I dunno it just seemed like they already had all these great characters in place, ready to be used to their full potential, but they were just cast aside for someone new. You don’t even have to change the casting. Rufus Sewell still could have played Crowley… and I guess Erin Wasson could have still played Virginia.
I guess, really, I’m just not entirely fond of this idea that Adam is the first Vampire. I liked in the book how it was this great big mystery about where they came from. Like the way we humans wonder exactly where we came from and how our story began and how we evolved into what we are today, so to do Vampires wonder where they came from and how it all began. This idea of bringing in an “Adam” sort of cheapened it. For me, anyway.
They didn’t even have to change the way the movie played out, really. Just keep the names… so it at least had SOME sort of tie in to the book.
I’m not ranting… or I’m trying not to. I loved the movie and thought Rufus Sewell played a great villain. I just couldn’t help but wonder why Crowley was just completely dismissed.
