Do you have any guesses as to why Ward killed Thomas Nash? It seems kind of pointless. Team Bus would have eventually found out Garrett was Hydra regardless, and by killing Nash Ward cast suspicion on himself, even getting locked up in the Cage. If he hadn’t killed him, Nash would have been imprisoned in the Fridge, killed by Hand or her lackeys, and it didn’t make a difference whether he lived or died. The end outcome would be the same. All Ward did was make things more complicated for himself.

This is something I wonder about a lot, Blueberry. If it was ever explained in the show, I missed it, despite having watched season 1 multiple times and read sooooo much about it. I cannot figure out if Ward really did kill Nash in the heat of the moment or if it was planned or even directed to by Garrett. If it was the heat of the moment, what was the motivator? Was it really to protect Skye or was it to protect Garrett? It's not clear how widespread the knowledge that Garrett was the Clairvoyant was. Did Nash actually know? Could he have exposed Garrett? There is so much about Ward and Garrett and what they knew and didn't, both about each other and the greater situation, that isn't clear during this part of the season. As a shipper, I kinda like the idea of Ward losing his head and killing Nash out of revenge/protection for Skye. But that doesn't quite make sense with the character of Ward and how controlled he really is. The problem is, Ward killing Nash turns the spotlight on Ward, which in turn could easily shine on Garrett too. And everything happened SO QUICKLY with Hydra coming out/being exposed, it wasn't like Garrett could have planned this all out. (Side note: I want to know more about the details of how Garrett factored into the greater Hydra structure, and how the events of The Winter Soldier and AoS line up. But I have my doubts as to that actually being figured out.) So yeah, I don't have a good answer for you, and I am also confused by it. If anyone else has more information, help me out here.

Jemma and Fitz are so cutely domestic in this scene

OMG May was almost smiling. That was super suspicious.

Blake is acting like this is a date set-up and not a mission

Meanwhile Garrett won’t shut up which is so like him

Blake wasn’t a match with May, but he got Deathlok! This is actually not a good deal for him. Womp.

Fitz is so cute complaining that Jemma is ready to leave him while deducing why it is she wants to go to the Hub. Meanwhile the look on his face when he finds out Trip is going is both hilarious and heartbreaking. I just want to hug him.

So Blake wasn’t a total mess of an agent. He managed to tag Deathlok.

Remember when Brad Dourif was on The X-Files? That was a really good episode. He was super creepy on there too. 

Ward shooting him really is a shock. I jumped this time, and I knew it was coming obviously.

Everyone is reevaluating Ward at this point, you can tell.

None of them ever really get down to the real of it though because obviously who suspected what was really going on.

This scene with Fitz talking to Jemma is so tense for some reason. 

The Clairvoyant being an agent of Shield really is a shock

I’m so glad May turned out not to be the bad guy because I really did worry for her at this point

This whole part with May is so tense though. Like you can see the team beginning to fracture and you know that nothing is going to be the same anymore.

So good.

This episode is so interesting because it starts out as one thing, and once Ward shoots Nash everything changes. Of course at the time I didn’t realize what that really meant. But what a good set-up.

This episode rates a 9/10 on the TENSE SITUATIONS scale. It also gets a 10/10 on the Creepy Foreshadowing scale. There was a lot of that going on here. 

Our song for the episode is “Read My Mind” by The Killers because legit Thomas Nash was a patsy who just wanted to be special and instead got sacrificed in the name of Hydra. Womp.
