It's fine to ship aroace characters and write explicit fanfics about them. This is fandom, you can do whatever you want and you can stray as far away from canon as you want. People have been shipping straight guys since the dawn of time and that has never stopped them. However it absolutely sucks if you feel the need to explain why the aroace character in question couldn't possible be aro or ace or both; so that makes it fine to ship them! Or why it's actually a boring and disappointing choice to have them be aroace, from a storytelling perspective.

Ship what you want but maybe do that without invalidating other people. And it's not like aroace people are swimming in representation.

I've been fully obsessed with the Rivers of London books for about two years now, so it's about time that I drew the OG Folly gang! I love all of them, and I'm really pleased with how this group shot turned out - it's probably the most complicated multi-character illustration I've done to date.

I need to write a fic someday about aroace Thomas Nightingale realizing some time in the future that he has a place in the queer community.

There is something so interesting to me in having a character who has been aware of what he wants and doesn't want in that regard for almost a century (depending when the fic is set and how you define 'almost'), has demonstrably been an ally to the queer community for almost as long, but wouldn't necessarily have been up to date with it and thus wouldn't know about aroace as a queer identity.

He'd be like Of course I support anybody's right to love who they want to love and to express and self-determine their gender, that's just common decency. I relate to their alienation from heteronormative society and of course I support them. What do you mean by asexual- oh.

Probably with the help of Abigail who I feel is much more likely to talk about this stuff than Peter.

Has Nightingale become a God without noticing it? I might be a bit late to the party, but it suddenly strikes me as a really obvious explanation for his lack of aging, but it didn't occur to me until we get this bit mirroring the earlier discussion of Mama Thames having forgotten her mortal life.

Love to see Aaronovitch continuing his trend of giving us absolute one-page-heartstopper-scenes of Peter and Nightingale in the penultimate or last chapter of his books, this time with the gut-punch banger of "How do you cope?", "With what?", "With losing people?", "I rather think I'm the wrong person to ask. I didn't cope. Or, rather, I merely carried on until enough time had passed for things to settle.", "That's not very helpful.", "As I said, perhaps I'm not the right person to ask."
