'Shortcake' - Thomas Imagine
Twisting and turning, sleep was not your friend tonight for no matter how hard you tried and no matter how much you wanted it, you couldn't doze off into a deep slumber. After laying in bed staring at the ceiling for what felt like forever, you sprang out of bed, grabbed your shoes and tip toed down the corridor of the Homestead.
Creak...creak...creak, whimpered the wooden floorboards from under your heavy feet: you tried your best not to wake anyone up as you made your way to the stairs. All of a sudden, you a heard the sound of shuffling feet from inside the room beside you to which made you jump like a frightened cat.
Following your arrival Alby made a new rule - don't go outside during the nighttime hours, for he didn't want you running into a horny teenage boy in the dead of night where they would have full advantage over you because of the lack of people around. You excepted the rule however tonight, you desperately needed a quiet walk and fresh air so the worry of being caught by the mysterious man in the room made your legs instantly move. You ran down the stairs as quietly as possible before dashing out the main door of the Homestead and across the mist of darkness that had swallowed the glade after sunset.
Running made you feel free even though you weren't that fast, perhaps that's why you aspired to be a runner yet you were quite content working with Frypan in the kitchens for he was always the highlight of your day however there was one person who was an exception. That was Thomas. From just one look, he made you feel weak in the knees to the point where you couldn't stand up straight. No one has ever made you feel that way before therefore he makes you nervous because you don't know how to act around him.
Nearing the colossal concrete wall, you slowed your run until you came to a halt and stared up at where the names were carved into the solid rock. Every name of every Glader to ever step foot out of the box was spread across a small sector of barrier that separated you from the grievers. Every name was on that wall, every name expect yours. Dejected, you fell to the floor. While kneeing you glazed at the wall wondering what you did wrong to not deserve your name up there with everyone else. You worked just was hard as them, the only thing different as that you were a girl but surely they didn't care about that.
"One day, (y/n) you'll be up on that wall like the rest of us...but you've got to deserve it" the voice growled from directly behind you. Startled you sharply turned in anticipation to see who the unknown person was, despite the fact in having a pretty good idea due to the mellow voice.
"Thomas? Wh-what are you doing up?" Your heart thumped against your rip cage so powerfully you thought it might break from the force. He looked down at you with a simple smile before taking a seat beside you with his lengthy legs crossed under him.
"I should ask you the same question. I heard you outside my room - you'd make a klunk ninja you know" he chuckled as you playfully hit his shoulder while chuckling as well. The moonlight glistened upon his face so that it enhanced his handsome features as well as his smile seemed so bright it was the cure to sadness itself.
"I couldn't sleep so I thought i'd come out here - Alby can't keep us locked in there every night any" you replied as you stared up at the wall, deep in thought.
"I'm sure he'll understand, shortcake" he laid back on the grassy floor, stretching his interbody out then placed both arms under his head to act like a pillow.
"Shortcake, really?" you hushed as you laid down next to him so closely that when you placed your hands of your stomach, your elbow gently rubbed against his side.
"Yeah, I thought it was cute!" he said in a high pitched voice as if trying to convince himself not just you.
"Well if you can call me shortcake, I can call you Tommy" As soon as those words escaped your lips, you shut your eyes in regret: you knew all to well what his reply was going to be.
"No" he paused for a few moments - his gentle breathing the only thing audible to your ears "only Newt calls me that"
"Sorry, Thomas. I didn't mean anything by it, it's just...I'm a little jealous of Newt" you noticed out the corner of your eye that he flipped his head sideways to look at you, his eye's widened in surprise "He's the only person who can call you that and Teresa is the only person who can call you Tom so...am I not good enough to call you by one of your nicknames?" You couldn't believe you were emitting this, you always thought it but now that you actually said it, you might as well say a love confession to him since this is the time you decided to start emitting things. Still not looking at him, you stared up at the stars trying to ignore his presence out of pure embarrassment. He rotated to he was lying on his side facing you and when he realised you weren't going to move, he reached his arm around your waist and placed it on your back in order to twist you close to him so that your face nuzzled into his chest. Beat after beat his heart quickened as your cheeks turn bright red and your body stiffened. God, he smelt good - manly.
"Listen to me. Just because you don't call me by one of my nicknames doesn't mean I care any less about you...I might even care more" he shyly confessed. A moment of silence pasted but then you felt his muscles twitch. Promptly, he flipped you on your back so he was now hovering above you, intensely flickering his eyes from your lips to your pupils.
"Thomas?" you whispered, to question the boy who closed the small distance between you and him. He caressed your cheek before planting his lips onto yours making your whole body heat up like it was being eaten by flames. Passionately you kissed him back while your hands overtook his chest and when he let out a deep groan of pleasure your hands grasped his shirt, in hope he'd never stop. Breaking the kiss, he pecked your forehead with his lips.
"I always though actions spoke louder than words but just in case - I love you (y/n)" he hummed in a low enticing voice as he bathed you in warm generous kisses that sent tingles through your body.
"Good that because I love you too"
The following morning Thomas took you over to the wall of names where you had spent the majority of last night. With excitement clearly exploding through his body, Thomas told you to close your eye's as you neared the wall or you'd wreak his surprise. Curiosity, overwhelmed you as squeezed his hand in impatience. Finally when he stopped you, you were able to open your eyes and the first thing you noticed was that a new name had been added to the wall.
