“what’s your game?” the warm heat of summer shines down on him, can feel it rising up outta the black pavement he’s paused on, too. rio’s got a backpack slung over his shoulder filled up with shit he’d plucked outta the country club lockers. nothin’ too crazy, he’s been learning how to avoid any attention. a couple twenties here and there, just one bejeweled cuff link. things that coulda just as easily be brushed off as lost except he got his dumbass caught. that girl ( this girl ) all princess blonde and smirking like she was really doin’ something. it’s the only thing that’s been running through his mind all day.
he’d spent the majority of it hangin’ around, lookin’ over his shoulder, just waiting for her manicured little finger to point security his way, but it never came. nah, he’d just went about his business and then clocked out.
until now. ‘til he heard those tires crunch up close and stop and he was ready to take off running, but with a glance back all he sees is that face. the one that’d winked at him before skipping off back into the glitzy lightness of her life. like nothin’ happened. he’s uneasy, expectant. got a hard face for her, but it’s saturated in genuine curiosity. what the hell is she doing?
