"I need you to teach me how to beat Sindri in a fight."
starter for @othunderous, from hnoss.
@othunderous, from here.
It isn't the first time Sigyn has been left wondering, of course. In the aftermath of Loki's fall she had turned the events which came before it over and over in her mind, trying to determine whether there was anything she could have done to bring about a different outcome. She knows that to allow herself to do the same now would be tantamount to playing with fire - she'd driven herself half mad with what ifs in the past; the last thing she needs to do now is let herself go down that same road again.
Loki would never have let her stay on the Statesman. Even with their own fears weighing down upon them, they would always have prioritised making sure that she was safe. But there is an aching part of Sigyn which would rather have been there - no matter the horrors she would have seen, no matter what would have happened to her.
"I am not naïve enough to believe I could have stopped Thanos." She begins, honest and exhausted. She can't quite bring herself to continue the thought, to ask whether she could have stopped Loki. Because in her heart, she knows their actions wouldn't have changed; that her being there as well as Thor would only have hardened their resolve to try and keep them safe.
Thor is right. She knows that Thor is right. That doesn't make it any easier to accept what's happened. It isn't easy to acknowledge his admission that he would never have forgiven himself had anything happened to her, either. Because as much as she loves him, she cannot bring herself to take solace in the fact that she's still here - once again left wondering whether there was more she could have done to save her husband.
"I am so... Tired of being the one left behind." She admits in a whisper, hating how pathetic she sounds.

It takes a moment for the underlying concern in his tone to register. Hnoss' mind is half-elsewhere, brow pinched in thought as teeth gnaw at the inside of her lower lip. Her gaze shoots up to him when it does, though; Thor is as much an older brother to her as Brokkr and Sindri are, as far as Hnoss is concerned, and the thought that she may have unintentionally made him doubt that has an apology on her tongue. Until, that is, he speaks again.
"I haven't done anything!" She exclaims, indignant. "I just wanted to ask you something."
"I will wait, and hope."

@thorodinsun sent: ruffles her hair
She feigns annoyance for all of a few seconds, but can't hide her fond smile in the end. "Would you like to be the one to explain to my mother why I'm about to arrive at this feast looking like I've been dragged through a hedge?"
five times relieved 🫶🏽

word gets around that kie is looking into donnie gill. blizzard. he ran afoul of s.h.i.e.l.d. and then he ran afoul of s.h.i.e.l.d's evil counterpart. last anyone heard of him, he'd been shot off the deck of a ship by the heroine who would one day assume the name quake.
he landed in the water.
he froze.
perhaps it was a defense mechanism. a way of preserving himself. snow white and sleeping beauty in reverse.
when uncle thor finds her, kie just stares sadly at one of the files darcy has pilfered from the database.
"that's donnie gill. more commonly known these days as blizzard. our powers are similar. i didn't really know him, but before he went to s.h.i.e.l.d.'s academy, he lived in maxville. like me. we weren't really friends, because he didn't really talk to anyone and i didn't talk to him, either. but i still feel... obligated, almost. to look for him. because donnie's mom isn't in the picture and his dad sure as hell isn't gonna."
when uncle thor looks at her, silently inviting her to elaborate, she does, gnawing at her lower lip: "when the maxwellness thing happened, i had you, and aunt rey. i had my friends. i had warren, and farzana, and jawaharel. i had people around me. to catch me." a beat and then: "i don't think donnie has that anymore. that guy he'd befriended, seth, only used him. and callie? gone with the wind. donnie deserves a friend. or at the very least, someone who gives enough of a damn to go look for him."
"then we'll go look for him," uncle thor rumbles, "and we'll bring him home."
❄️
it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. except this time, it's less a needle and more an icicle at the bottom of the ocean.
kie calls in a favor from one of her best friends, ethan bank, who calls his mother, esther - she's a salvage diver known as the superhero estuary - who ends up performing a sweep of the area. it comes up empty.
she thanks ms bank either way and tells her to say hi to ethan and to her own mother - a heroine who once went by the name tributary until she had to hang up the proverbial cape.
"how long do you think that he'll last down there?"
"long enough for us to find him."
suddenly, kie feels a lot better about their odds.
❄️
"what's the longest you've ever searched for anyone?" kie asks when she gets back.
earlier, she had to take a lap and go find herself a can of mango flavored soda - she likes the ones with the sailor moon girls on them - to cool down.
(she's fine now, she swears. promises. pinky promises, even!)
"that would probably be your aunt rey," uncle thor muses, visage softening at the mere mention of his love. "i doubt it will take us that long to find your new friend."
as a thank you for bolstering her spirit, kie holds out the can to him. on it, sailor venus smiles cutely. "---i've also got a mochi share pack if you want some. we're overdue for a snack break, anyway."
❄️
"we're gonna need a place for donnie to live," kie muses, "you know, after we find him." because they will find him. hopefully sooner, rather than later.
she doesn't know if uncle thor and aunt rey have enough space, what with their kids and all. and while she'd love to open up her home, she doesn't know if her parents would approve.
anxiously, she runs through her extensive mental database of people she knows and could feasibly ask for a favor when uncle thor speaks up.
"i could reach out to brunnhilde---"
"---i'm so sorry, who?"
"valkyrie. she governs new asgard in my stead." a beat. "i am sure she will have a spot for young mister gill."
relieved, kie smiles at him and he smiles back.
❄️
"uncle thor? i'm so... i'm really glad you're here," kie's voice crackles over the intercom of the falcon as it enters earth's atmosphere (or through a worm-hole or something, kie hasn't been off-earth enough to know the lingo). "or about to be, anyway." a beat and then: "i think we found him."
we're not that different after all. @ banner hehe

" we uh, we're not ? " his brow arches up at his god of a friend. what is making thor think this ? he's curious to know, eyes focused on the god. bruce has always considered himself different from not only thor but most people. for one, he's smarter than most people which makes him come off as a know - it - all on occasion. not in the same sense it comes off on tony, but in a politer sense. & two, he's twice as awkward & shy as well. but let's not forget the most obvious one, turning into the big guy when the slightest amount of something triggers any sort of anger. that makes him the most different than anyone else on the planet, really. he seems himself as a monster half the time, a monster he still has trouble controlling. a monster who could easily destroy a whole city without even knowing what he's done until the sun gets low enough. & thor is nothing of the sort. he's strong, he's powerful, he's a literal god that banner admires. the two could not be more different, at least in his head. hand comes up to the back of his neck, rubbing it as a sign of his awkward nature. " why do you say that, thor ? you're much better than i am. you're the best of us, next to cap of course. "
