World War II veteran Bob Dole was the driving force behind getting the World War II memorial built and now he’s on a mission to shakes hands with every veteran who visits.
2. After childhood years in Iraq, U.S. Air Force Capt. enlists to make a difference
Capt. Alea Nadeem was taken to Iraq by her father at age eight, forced to stay there for four years before her mother and the FBI could bring her back to the United States. She enlisted in the Air Force after the September 11th attacks.
3. A combat medic and his canine friend, now part of the family
Joe rescued Annabelle, a one month old puppy, while he was serving in the Middle East. After a long road, the pair have been reunited and are now part of one happy family.
4. Father and son stationed at same Arizona Air Force base
Airman Jacob Formantes and his father Master Sgt. Bob Fomantes are both based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base — a coincidence that allows them to form a stronger bond.
5. With Marine dreams derailed by rare cancer, young man finds another way to serve
Matthew Pierce dreamed of becoming a Marine since the 9/11 attack when he was five, but a rare bone cancer served as a major setback. Now he plans to become a federal law enforcement agent.
