Reviewing Armie's new podcast, I wish I had the skills to extract a couple of clips from it, one I think is most pertinent to Armie's thoughts :
@ 18:30 : "... And the problem is we're not giving ourselves time to process everything that's going on. So, we're on our heels and they the shots just keep on coming. It's the like, dude, I I hadn't recovered from that video of the 'Ukrainian girl on the train' . And then boom, now the 'Charlie Kirk' video . This is so psychically destabilizing for human beings . And there's nothing I can do to help the world . There's just not ." [...] "And instead of allowing this to continue to rock my world except to turn it off, I made the decision to turn it off . I got rid of all of my social media on my phone ."
The part that makes me sick, as a Dad, is that Armie felt he had to show his child in his back seat in order to garner some form of 'sympathy' from an unknown aggressive driver JUST so he could get his child to school. The driver could've been having a 'f*ck you' moment, or a political one, and pulled out a gun... But Armie took a chance . And that kind of thing will haunt and disturb you in ways ... you can see the realization on his face ... When we get to that point where we feel we need to expose our vulnerabilities to perfect strangers for a bit of mercy ... What is the world coming to ??
I, like Armie, and so many other Dads, and Mums, and ..... feel so so sick and scared . The world is unstable now and requires a whole other level of protection and negotiation .
Some would probably say that we should be used to it by now, and especially Armie, he portrays violence on screen and such bullsh!t . But the memo here is that Armie knows movies are fake and up to artistic interpretation . People need to grow tf up !
What's going on in our world today is NOT A MOVIE !! People need to find their way back to humanity . Social media should not be used in such a way because we need to REMEMBER THAT OUR CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE PEOPLE HAVE FREE ACCESS TO IT ! And yes ! it was designed in this way, to be accessible to all . We already knew this going in !
And so, social media needs to be turned off until we figure out how to heal from all this . Armie is smart to take a break from it . He and Jerr-Bear are both right to look the way they feel atm, because when this kind of despair hits empathic artistic people like them, they need time to self-care, as we all do ... and we need to empathize with each other, instead of taking sides .
This new podcast wasn't about Charlie Kirk, it was about how there are too many 'Charlie Kirk' incidents and they are knocking on our doorstep, one step closer to insanity . One step closer to your children . And that's what Armie was on and on about . How violence is becoming so mainstream that people, here, right here in our Americas, are forgetting themselves .
Like Jerr-Bear said ... there's more to say but ...
I hope this makes sense .
